Guys,
Just joined this forum to try and get a little advice.

Been on an 18" Five for 3 years and loved it to bits! However been running a 16" Alpine for a few months including the yearly trip to Morzine and can't quite work out if it's for me.

I'm 5'9 in height but have a 31" inseam and long torso. It just feels a little cramped, however could be just the difference in weight.

Half considering an 18" instead but ain't sure. Any ideas fellas? P.S Got a stonking deal on the Alpine frame ex hire so would not be a nightmare to make the change.

All the best,

Lee.

5'10 with 32" inseam and 16" alpine is perfect for me. But I know I like 22.5" TTs and that's what the 16" has (same as the medium/17" Nomad it replaced).

6' with 32" legs and the 18" Alpine suits me. 60mm stem at that too, though it gets a 75 in this country sometimes.

Edit: I had an 18" Five and ran a 90mm stem on that. The fit, corrected for riding position / intended use is about the same after kicking an inch off your stem. Do if you liked the 18" Five and the stem wasn't vanishingly small the 18" Alpine might suit you.

Cheers guys!
Igm,

At the moment I have been running a 70mm Easton Haven stem in the UK and a 50mm stem for the Alps. I only run this bike now. Ride it everywhere. Peaks, Scotland, Lakes etc.....

Wish they made a 17" like the five....... Lol

Must read what I post. The typos are bad, but the gist was there.

Igm,
I got what you meant mate! You did a cracking job of explaining! I think you could be right though..... 18" with a 50mm Thomson for all duties......

Please note - it is nowhere near all duties. I have two rigid bikes (one is a SS, one drop barred) and a C456.

But it's my only FS I suppose.

I do not have the luxury of a second bike...lol

Only just have enough space for the Alpine & the road bike. For this years Mountain Mayhem we just hired good 29's from Rutland and did pretty well. Something about throwing a bike around that isn't yours!

Just getting the last few bits through for the Alpine rebuild after the alps.
