I've seen plenty of kiddie BMX/mountain bikes with knobbly tyres, though I couldn't say for certain if they were 14" or 16" wheels.

Halfords seem to be the masters of random tyres in random sizes, so try a branch or two.

Having said that, if he's cleaning this stuff with slicks, let him get on with it - he'll be on the podium one day ๐Ÿ˜€

Don't Islabikes do Contis as an option?

most independent bike shops should have them, usually cheap Tioga comp~III copies, or smoke/dart coppies

Had the same problem with my daughter's CNOC 14 - only time she crashed was due to tyres failing with grip.
I bought some from Raleigh that stated they were 14" but they didn't fit. Eventually bought a CNOC 16 which you can spec with contis.
