Just a frame? This is what I'd get (and I probably will....)
[img] [/img]

It's 140mm rather than 130mm, but comes with the new Fox EVOL DPS shock, 142x12 rear, normal tapered HT (none of this overdrive crap) threaded BB, lightish and if my mates Trance is anything to go by, will ride brilliantly!

Yep Scout would definitely be my answer. Can be built nice and light if so required. Pyga One Twenty would be another good option, slightly less biased towards the downhill and more of a ride-all-day-in-the-mountains style of bike, but nevertheless still a blast to ride.

If you're after a real bargain, there are a few 2015 Kili Flyers left at silly prices. After that, 2016 is full carbon only, great bike though.

Trance gets my vote as well. Mine is built up with Pikes/Arches/X01, 27lbs with sensible tyres (specialized control carcasss).

It's a shame the Trance isn't, I don't know, a bit more inspiring looking?

Does the Trance really have a threaded BB? I thought they were all press fit these days.

Its pressfit (41mm), hope Pf41 is creak free. Least they painted this years Trance, last year it was brushed with a clear coat!

Yes the trance is a bit plain, but it rides very well (climbing and descending) and with a set of Pikes/34 Floats on the front is a perfect trail bike which will take a hammering.

Just had some Scouts come into work and they look immensely good fun, a test ride beckons I think!

Love my Scout.

There was a comment above about their weight. My 2 previous bikes all weighed about the same 29 lb.

The Scout rides lighterer.

Just bought the new Commencal Meta Trail, it only has 120mm on the front and back (I think it now has 130mm on the front) but it is the best bike i've had.

Just got back from coed and betwys and it handled everything, in fact the shorter suspension gave me more control.

Isn't this basically what the Santa Cruz Bantam is for? Same geometry as a 5010 but with simpler single pivot suspension?

barney - that's a shame - tho given how hard it was being pushed over here (i.e. pretty much not at all), I can't say I'm surprised. Of course, if it's now a discontinued model, that's got to be worth a bit of discount, eh? Making it an even more affordable (relatively speaking) option? 😆

Just ordered a new Speshi Camber Comp 650b, 130mm travel, hoping I'm made the right call but on paper looks the bike for me.

No big drops, some mincing over drop-off's the BPW blues\reds keeping the wheels to the trails, I reckon its the right bike for me.

I quite fancied an AM29 but worried about the weight of it.

32lbs
I put some helium balloons inside the frame to help with that 😀
Slightly on the heavy side but it's a do it all 130 mm bike.
