[#1992463]

Does anyone remember a load of 105 shifter failures? My dads just had the internal guts die in his, took it back to where he bought it and has pretty much been fobbed off as they've decided he has broken it by changing under load. While he's honest enough to not be trying it on, and the cost of a set of shifters isn't the end of the world, it's the point of it. Is there any previous with these failing or is it a case of biting the bullet?

I was informed by a mechanic at my LBS that loads of the 2009 triple versions had been returned to them. My Tiagra triple went kapputt and was replaced with a proper double that worked quite nicely.

I'm not sure of my grounds on this...but doesn't the warranty for the shifters lie with Madison? Or ultimate pursuits as they now like to call themselves...anyway the point is, can you not insist that the shop return them to them before giving such a strong response?

I should imagine the shop should br responsible for that. I doubt the distributors will be interested with dealing with Joe public. Although that's what I'll be doing if he gets no luck

Got mine back from Madison today (via LBS). If you check the Shimano site 105 has a two year warranty (most LBS's don't know this! You can always go to a different shop.

I broke 2 LH 105 shifters. 1 may have been my fault, the other was definitely not.

The only mate I know to use 105's also broke one.

they've decided he has broken it by changing under load.

I can't imagine the shifter taking too much load the chain & dertaileurs yes, but the shifter?

The LH 09 shifter is notorious for failing, mine was one it's way out (would take 2 or 3 shifts before it actually moved the front mech) when I had a crash so had to replace them anyway and didn't try a warranty claim.

If you can remove/refit it yourself, then just take the unit back to the shop, all they then need to do is get a return number from Madison(who are brilliant with warranty issues, especially Shimano)and send it off.As mentioned above, there were definitely problems with these shifters, and I can't see there being an issue with Madison replacing them for you.

I had this problem. Iwas told that shimano had designed the shifter to work with both compact and triple chain sets but it failed on compact chain sets. Mine failed and was replaced under warranty by my lbs and it was 2009. Hope that helps
