13 mile walk on Arran, couple of corbetts and a wee recce of the Mauvais Pas on A'chir ridge, for a future climb.

Then 5 hours in the Galloways navigating around a course for MRT training.

Soaked all weekend, phone succumbed to the rain too. Great weekend though.

Riding with my 6yo daughter and pals today. Great times, not strenuous exercise but I was outside and moving for the best part of 4 hours so ✅

Walk yesterday afternoon south of Coniston, and ride round some of the quieter Grizedale BWs today for me and @p20, with a quick van get away.

Chose well - saw very few people all weekend. The drizzle may have helped!

15km run from the Hayfield to home. It was 20c so well above my comfort zone. Amazingly enough I didn't feel broken and managed a ride to the Old Bridge Inn for beers with a couple of mates.

Managed to avoid most of the soapdodgers up here because it's the holiday weegend

A post dinner walk was scuppered by torrential rain. Stretching routine sufficed though.

Along the Tees to Stockton and back with a little bit of dirt jump at the end.Coming back in the dark took a bit of getting use to.Still my magicshine grenade thing did it's job.I saw a little bit of wildlife, including some very relaxed North Tees Rabbits.Come the UC Benefit cut I think they might need to get a bit more wary.

The real challenge arrives tomorrow with autumnal weather.I must think of some indoor activities. My reliance on the outdoor gym is going to be tested.

Ahh, that would explain why it was so busy after my ride yesterday.

Disaster narrowly avoided this morning - had a few last night, didn't get to bed until 2 or so... with a planned 5:30am start... Alarm went off, I hit snooze, then snooze again, repeat until 6. And I'm supposed to be meeting up with some club mates at 6:30 to make sure the race course is properly marked, and it's a half hour drive away. Bollocks.

Luckily I had prepared my breakfast last night, and after wolfing it down, quick coffee, and the fastest dump in history I headed out just 15min late. Quick WhatsApp to the club mates before heading out, and when I get to the start they've replied: "we'll set off without you, taking it easy, you catch up"... And I did. Took a good half hour to get to them, but no worries. Ended up doing an enjoyable 4 hours or so up a mountain, it was a lovely day with a chilly start but no wind, and a warm end. And a free t-shirt thanks to being a volunteer.

Bit of a chesty cold so counting a short walk to the playground with the kids and 5 sets of 3 pull ups on the climbing frame (which felt good), and a couple of other bits. Yes it's not very many but I don't do them regularly. Also plenty of shoulder rides and lifting boy up to look at bugs on tree leaves. Tried trials riding later but didn't have the energy for it, everything was sketchy. Half an hour.

I am thinking in a Monday to SUnday week for this, so for last week:

Mon: Local loop heading out to Blackamoor woods at the edge of Sheffield
Tues: Loop down towards Linacre reservoir area and back via Big Moor and Totely Moss
Wed: Commute home off road along curbar - definitely getting dark earlier - as per photo
Thu: Commute back on the road (counting as it's a hilly 11 miles!)
Fri: Quite lanes and tracks loop after work
Sat: Run locally from home through the woods and up to Ringinglow
Sun: Bike ride out towards Holmesfield and back via Blackamoor

Fitting in some bits of stretches/exercies for back.

Dark commute

Think this is relatively easy at the moment with nice weather and dry ground, probably be harder to keep momentum as things get darker, wetter and colder. I am not a mega strava user but think that for this it is quite good for motivation to see that everyone else is getting out too.

Sadly back the other side of the Pennines now 🙁

Feeling a bit trashed from yesterday’s mtb efforts (long COVID definitely slows my recovery - ‘stress’ metrics on my Garmin aren’t good today), so took some chicken on a rather long walk home from Morrison’s. Know some of you are managing every day biking etc; but if I get through the 100 days and in one piece - that will be a massive victory. In which case these much slower days will have to do for me.

That's exactly how I did last year when I was also in Covid recovery mode.

I have added running this year and, for once, have done it properly and sensibly after trying several times over the years only to give up due to shin splints and other painful issues. I'd usually just set off on the pavement, at full speed, band then be unable to walk for a few days. Then I'd try again with the same result.
This time, I started off running slowly, with very short strides, on grass, basically very slow laps of a few fields in a nearby park. Discovering I have high arches, not flat feet as I had thought, and getting a suitable footbed, has helped too.
After only a few weeks of build-up, last night I ran 4.25 miles at 7.40 a mile, all on tarmac, without any particular issues. Pretty pleased with that.

In my case, I just worked my self too hard without thinking and it really didn't help much. I'm sure I could have read a book about it or employed a coach to tell me the same stuff. This is just so much simpler and easier to follow.

Thanks Scotroutes - you definitely seemed to see the benefits last year.

I also use the Garmin training metrics as a guide. I find it useful and pretty simple. Definitely helps me identify overtraining.

I've done a bit more the last week or so, but will definitely be having easier days too and some of my rides have been pottering about.

Hopefully it's a trigger to do a bit of something, but it shouldn't matter at all how much and listening to how we feel is very important in terms of not overdoing it ( or listening to the electronics!)

First time I've ran 5 miles in a good few months, I've been doing the bare minimum 5k's at lunch, didn't push it and really felt some mojo coming back.

Really glad I started this now, STW is pretty cool sometimes.

Will do a spot of warm-up/yoga/mobility/active exercise this evening, shoulders feel tight, but so far today a one way five mile commute on old road bike and a 40 minute lunch time walk. Yet another puncture at valve on front wheel and no backup tube so got a lift home. Contemplating running it to work tomorrow, which be a new one. Weather currently looks ok for it. Got a few things to take with me, lunch, light items of clothes, carry in bag in hands or risk blisters on back from ruck-sack, 6 miles?

Decided I'm just going to take the OHs "MTB", a size too small. Don't think a 6 mile run will won't help me shift the last of the lurgy either.

Cycled into town for lunch with friends, back along the river, that there boat has sunk again...
Cheaped out the dog with a totter to the corner (will make it up to him tomorrow) and then headed off to the gym for back to back half hour circuits type classes.
This week and next are the hard training weeks for the upcoming half marathon. I say hard. In the old days I would have counted them as ridiculously light, but I don't have that body any more!

Heaviest rain I’ve seen for a while yesterday for an hour riding in the dark, followed by more heavy rain on and off for lunch time duty. At least it was sunny and cool to ride home (in wet gear!)

Lucky it's 3 miles/15 minutes to the start of the club Monday night gravel ride. Just got there when MrsMC rang to say her car had broken down (alternator according to the recovery guys), and I needed to pick daughter up from gymnastics, so 15 minutes back and Day 12 completed after all!

I'm in on this, good for motivation. I did 50 days at the start of the year for the Doddie Weir challenge, it stopped and I went on to 50 days. Thought about 100 then but was tired and really fancied a rest! Taking it easier this time and using it as an excuse to (re) build my base. Was struggling for HR last week, thinking I was totally unfit but the cold that was in the post has been delivered 🙁 Nothing major just a bit grotty. Relieved in one way (not as unfit as I thought) but a bit miffed that it may affect this challenge. Walks it is for a few days.

Well done to everyone, as monkeymonkeydo says, it's a long way till Christmas. Keep going!

Run planned for lunchtime today.

Latest update. Managed to keep on track so far with some walks (some very casual) and some actual exercise and bike rides.
Went to bike park Wales as managed 2 1/2 runs before I hit the deck head first and have some neck pain. So it's gonna be easy walks until that is sorted, but they will be done.

Good to see people still cracking on.

I had to drop the Mrs off at hospital and then be picking her up a couple of hours later, so it was either (a) sit nursing a coffee and posting shit on here or (b) head along the coast a bit for a walk in the (mostly) sunny weather. So, 7km, 90 minutes done.

Commuted on the OHs hardtail today, regular short route to work. Used a trip to Halfords as an excuse for a lunch time ride, 50 minutes, 8.5 miles, about 2/3 cross country, got in a sweaty mess. Rained in the afternoon, on my cycle clothes I'd hung on the bike to dry for commute home. Wore jeans & t-shirt and thin waterproof for ride home and took the cross country route home, really enjoyed it, nothing special as far as MTB goes, but I just enjoy being out there so much more than riding on the road in traffic. Legs felt tired today, think they've got used to only riding 5 miles on smooth surfaces on a road bike. Total 21 miles, double usual commute distance.

Run to and from the MOT station in the pissing rain today. Car passed, which is good. Feeling really tired for some reason so I'll be getting an early night.

Weather looks mostly wet for the next week or two, so I expect there will be lots of walks and runs as I can't be bothered cleaning the bike.
