MTB DH World Champs: When & How To Watch

by 23

It’s the Downhill Mountain Bike World Championships this weekend. Here’s all you need to know about when things are happening and how to livestream it all.

The Mountain Bike World Championships are not part of the Mountain Bike World Cup Series, and they operate to a different format, schedule and broadcast rights. Which is what this guide will hopefully help you with.

The World Champs, should anyone not know by now, are a special one-off race where the winner takes it all. ‘All’ in this instance is the title of World Champion and a set of iconic rainbow stripes, stripes that you can sport for the rest of your racing career.

Winning the World Cup Overall title is technically the more impressive achievement but… the World Champs is just extremely darned exciting! So we love it.

How to watch it? GCN+ or BBC

In terms of how you watch it live online, in the UK there are two basic options. There’s the same GCN+/Eurosport/Discovery pay-to-view outfit (à la the World Cup broadcasts) or there’s the BBC.

The BBC should have the World Champs watchable via the BBC Sport website as well as the ‘Red Button’ option in iPlayer.

Having watched a few YouTube vids it appears that the whole track has been sanitised (I know thats a relative term, and yes there is no way I would get down it) but to me now many of the World Cup DHs are all getting very samey, bike park berm to bike park berm to bike park jump etc. Hopefully it will cut up a bit before they race, but I was just a bit meh watching it.

    Should be fast though

NAh Dunc, he’s currently too young. He only turned 15 a couple pf weeks back, You have to be 17-18 to race WC/Champs. TBH even if he was 17-18 he’s currently not good enough to be selected. There’s plenty who’d get the seat before my boy.

Whilst there have been plenty of riders being vocal about not wanting high speed bike park style races, on the whole from the vids I’ve watched they’re all pretty happy about the changes for fort bill – the complaining mostly seems to be from spectators. There has been plenty of smoothing but I think there’s still plenty of tech up the top of the track, especially into the corners.

I think you’ll be fine. I rode it (quite a few) years ago and it was ok at my (very) low speed, certainly ridden much harder trails. Not having rests and racing it, different matter completely mind…

Looking at current form I’d say Andi Kolb. Heart wants Daprela just because if he did win it would be such a spectacular ride to watch.
I would have loved to see Rachel win, I guess we all would.
