Mountains in Manchester! Kendal Mountain Festival Tour Date, 21 April

by 0

Fancy a night of adventure? The Kendal Mountain Festival Tour combines adventure films with great speakers to inspire you to get out there – or just appreciate the comforts of home and the bravery of others.

The next date in their tour diary is Sale, Manchester, on 21st April:

Inspirational, award-winning paraclimber to speak in Sale

An inspirational and award-winning paraclimber is visiting Sale in Manchester to talk about her life, and how her experiences can encourage achievement.

Anoushé Husain was born missing her right arm below the elbow. She is a cancer survivor, a Muslim who wears a headscarf, and lives with further conditions. Yet she became a climber, and on top of that a champion and role model to the thousands of people she has inspired.

Husain says she has never let what society or culture thinks she should do, dictate the direction of her life. Sharing her experiences, she candidly talks about how she has remained resilient in the face of huge obstacles and talks about issues that we, as a society, do not talk about enough. In particular Husain wants to help others learn to shed self-limiting beliefs and empower them to reach their potential.

A civil servant by day, Husain is an ambassador for both Ehlers-Danlos Support UK and Limbpower, the charity for amputees, as well as supporting the Grit&Rock Foundation which helps teenage girls from deprived backgrounds develop determination and self-confidence. She was the 2017 Asian Women of Achievement Award winner for Sport, and 2017 recipient of the Helen Rollason Award for Inspiration at The Sunday Times Sportswomen of the Year Awards.

Husain will be speaking at Waterside, Sale, on 21 April. The event, part of the Kendal Mountain Festival UK Tour, also features a collection of the world’s best short adventure films for audiences to watch on the big screen. Steve Scott, director of Kendal Mountain Festival, presents the Tour events and says, “‘Kendal’ is all about adventure; stories of extreme human endurance, breathtaking environments and adrenaline-fuelled excitement. Our Tour events are mini-Festivals that distil this spirit of adventure and exploration into one unique evening.”

Tickets are available via the Tour website or by calling the Waterside box office on 0161 912 5616.

I came to Singletrack having decided there must be more to life than meetings. I like all bikes, but especially unusual ones. More than bikes, I like what bikes do. I think that they link people and places; that cycling creates a connection between us and our environment; bikes create communities; deliver freedom; bring joy; and improve fitness. They're environmentally friendly and create friendly environments. I try to write about all these things in the hope that others might discover the joy of bikes too.
