New Nukeproof bikes for your nippers + Urchin specific kit

by 2

There has never been a better time to be a mountain bike fan, and this is especially true of our young riders. Big-name brands are finally taking kids bikes seriously with bikes built to shred for little nippers.

Nukeproof introduced its range of Cub Scout bikes earlier this year, and they’ve proven to be so popular that an update has already been released. The range consists of 20in, 24in and 26in wheeled alloy hardtails (when are we going to see a Mini-Me Mega?) all built to rip the woods with components even us big kids can appreciate.

Speaking of components, Nukeproof has taken its knowledge of making EWS winning kit and shrunk down the specs to create the new Urchin component range. The Urchin line-up includes pedals, bars, grips and saddles. More details of the Urchin range is due soon.

Press Release Follows

Some of the biggest stoke from new bikes we go this year was to see wee rascals shredding their Cub-Scouts on the trails. The emergence of more options of quality bikes for the youth sector has to be one of the most positive “trends” in recent times and the future of our sport is in amazing hands. We’re excited to see the evolution and progress of the sport with some amazingly talented youths on the trails at a much earlier age.  Launched in 2020 the Cub-Scout range takes direct inspiration from our award-winning Scout hardtail range. With one subtle different, the Cub-Scout being designed from the ground-up as a proper mini-hardtail mountain bike around the ergonomics of an urchin. The range of Cub-Scouts are available in 20”, 24” or 26” options; meaning that there should be a bike to suit kids of all sizes from aged 5 and up.

Like most Nukeproof products, the reason behind the product has purely selfish motivation! This range of bikes has been developed by an elite group of future shredders, our staff’s and athletes’ very own tiny humans! We used our dedicated test team to ensure that we offered fellow riders a class leading lightweight range to help inspire and nurture budding trail hero’s, downhill superstars and enduro megastars (do we add youtubers in there too now to stay trendy?)!

The main stay of each Cub-Scout is a lightweight custom butted 6061 aluminium framesets. Based on our youth optimised Scout geometry it in keeping with all the latest modern standards (que, “long, low and slack marketing term). What it does give is some seriously capable frames that can be ridden properly off road and if you want customised using the latest components. 2021 sees a fully revised components list. A year of sweating the detail and optimising the frames to make them perform even better. We’ve updated and improved the forks, drivetrain and controls to make these Cub-Scouts proper off-road trail rippers. The forks are custom tuned to tiny human rider weights to ensure they perform whatever trail they are thrown down.

To complement our Cub-Scouts and launching in October is our all new “Urchin kid’s components”.  Optimised for smaller paws and digits the Urchin range has been developed to offer the best functioning and fitting kit on the market, more on this coming soon.

I was looking to get my 9 year old son the 26″; however, he can actually ride my Specialized Fuse Comp 6fattie in a small frame. It’s a tad bit too big for him, but can still ride the trails and loves it. Tempted to replace the wheels and huge 3inch tyres with something like a 27.5 wheel and some 2.4″ tyres and give him the bike (thereby allowing me to buy a new hardtail for myself!). The Specialized has everything he needs: triggers, SRAM X7, 1x system and a dropper (although he’s not tall enough for that yet)….

@mr_white My 10 year old is very unhappy that my 12 year old is now on my old hardtail (a little too big as you say, but manageable), and he is on a rigid Frog bike with another in the garage waiting for him to grow into. No prospect of a ‘proper’ mountain bike in sight for him, and swapping out the bars for some nice wide Spank bars has done little to make him feel better about it. So, the lesson here is only give your 9 year old your bike if you’re prepared to deal with disgruntled younger siblings!
