Fresh Goods Friday 496 | Beech Nuts and Beach Nuts

by 7

Ah, without so many cars, step outside and there is the sound of the breeze, the birds and…JET WASHING? What are you all cleaning? Surely there can be nothing left, no trace of algae, moss, or mud? Are you trying to erode your patio? Distress your decking into drift-wood like grain ripples?

Ruurrrr, clunk, tcheww, rurrrr….rurrr….ru, ru, rurrrr….tcheww.

And breathe. Is there a sound in your neighbourhood that you can’t tune out? Perhaps someone has some mystical sounding windchimes that tinkle their celestial vibes all through the night. How about the gentle bubbling of a carp pond? Another wee anyone? Vent your frustrations in the comments below, then take a moment to relax with this, the satisfying crunch of dry birch nuts underfoot.

Ahh, isn’t that better. Let us continue, zen like, into Fresh Goods Friday 496.

SDG Bel Air 3.0 Lux-Alloy Saddle

SDG have updated the proven iconic shape of the Bel Air bringing us the Bel Air 3.0. This saddle is aimed at Enduro, All Mountain, Trail and XC rides and they come in multiple colours to ensure you’ll find one to suit your bike. Features included a hidden undercut cut out for comfort, a lightweight nylon base and this model comes with Lux Alloy rails bringing the total weight down to only 236g.

Overland Foliage Short Sleeve Shirt

An adventure sport shirt disguised as a regular shirt. Super stretchy fabric, a button up front, and two rear cargo pockets big enough for a bottle of wine each mean riding to the beach party has never been easier.

Overland Selector Shorts

  • £90.00

An incredibly stretchy fabric makes these unpadded shorts very comfortable. Charlie has been using them for cycling, running, swimming and lounging. These would be pretty handy as travel shorts with their small pack size, and three zip up pockets (one at the rear). A clever concealed elastic internal waist adjuster, and a rubber gripper helps them stay up.

Carver Tyler Riddler 35.5” Surfskate

This is my birthday present to myself. I started skateboarding in 1977 after my father called me into the living room to see a documentary about some kids in California carving up the vertical walls of swimming pools. My ex-father-in-law said to me when I was still a teenager “you won’t be skateboarding when you’re my age”. I called him up a few years ago to check how old he was when he said that. He was 44. So once a year I go out and blast around a vert pool to prove him wrong. With lockdown, and really not wanting to be that 48 year old dick in A&E, I avoided the vert and I got myself a “surfskate”. These are just like a regular skateboard, but have very soft wheels, and a castor style front truck. This truck allows you to pump the board for speed (instead of pushing) and gives you a super tight turning circle. Every street, driveway and park is now a middle-aged wave.

Truvativ Descendant AM Stem

  • Price: $65.00
  • From: SRAM

The Descendant 35mm stem has a larger clamp area to suit new-skool bars. The 7075 body is 3D forged then CNC machined for enhancing the finish and reduce weight. Dual steerer bolts keep the stem true while a removable face place design makes bar installation a breeze.

Truvativ Descendant 35mm Carbon DH Bar

  • Price: $180.00
  • From: SRAM

The Descendant 35mm Carbon DH bar is designed to be strong yet comfortable for downhill riders, but lightweight enough for trail riders. The carbon lay-up of the bar is designed to absorb trail buzz and help prevent arm fatigue on longer downhill runs.

A 35mm clamp area ensures precise and responsive steering, and an overall width of 800mm means there is plenty of room to chop them down to get them how you feel (20mm off each end is the max).

Nukeproof Horizon 30th Anniversary Edition Pedals

  • Price: Not sure these are on sale but standard pedals from £74.99
  • From: Nukeproof

This is a set of limited edition Nukeproof Horizon pedals made to celebrate 30 years of the brand. Like the standard Horizon pedal they feature 2 x high quality DH bushings and 4 x sealed bearings per pair and the body is made from forged 6061-T6 alloy with a machined finish. As these are special edition pedals they have been a super shiny finish and “30th” etchings on them. They perhaps might be too pretty to use.

What’s in the case? (Any ‘Ronin’ fans here?)

We’re not entirely sure of your chances explaining this lot at Border Patrol…

Anyone who works on bike brakes a lot knows that it’s an oil, messy business, with loads of oddball ‘standards’ and threads and oils and washers and syringes and, mostly, air bubbles in the wrong place. Park Tool has tried to ease the pains of the dedicated brake bleeder by assembling this kit with every brake thread and adaptor needed – for brakes with DOT fluid (so, SRAM, Hope, Hayes and so on…) There’s a separate, similar kit for Mineral oil brakes too.

One for bike shops and seeeeerious mechanics only, but if it’s worth it to you, it’s worth it.

Kenda Gravel Tyres

Gravel. It’s this spring’s enduro…

Kenda has a huge range of tyres, from downhill specials to road bikes. In recent years it has really expanded its gravel range to encompass everything from the near file tread of the Alluvium, through the knobbly-but-smooth Flintridge to the fully knobbly Booster Pro. And refreshingly, many of the treads come in an assortment of sizes, from a 27.5 x 50 to a skinny UCI legal 700×33, 3Peaks legal 35 or a sensible 40c…

You WON’T have just one… we guarantee it.

Inspired by Singletrack’s unofficial Monday Night Pub Ride crew, we decided to get some of their favourite pub snacks in to keep our solo rides more interesting. If you’ve never had these, you’re in for a treat. With a true Jalapeno taste (and kick) they are simply post-bike-ride mountain bike crack. They’ll leave you feeling happy and greasy and hot and nervous. Just like an ideal Friday night, right?

Speaking of Friday nights, here’s a tune to play you out. Hannah tells us this is how she dressed in about 1998, her children are thankful there is no photographic evidence. Put on your spangle pants and dance. It’s Friday!
