Mondraker Carbon Foxy 29er – The Most Obvious Bike Ever

by 2

Given that Mondraker has already launched a 27.5in carbon Foxy bike, the fact that it was going to launch a 29er version of the acclaimed Foxy took no great deducing. What is a surprise, though, is that – in honour of the fact that the Foxy sells so well in the UK – the company is going to be making a dedicated UK colour scheme for the bike. And boy does it look sassy, in black and orange!

UK specific colour looks hot!
Even the saddle is colour coded…
That’s looking pretty orange to us.

Mondraker has constructed the new Foxy “Based on new 29er specific Zero Suspension kinematics and optimised Forward Geometry” to reflect that the Foxy platform has now been around for something like fifteen years.

But what is it for, we ask? Everything is apparently the answer: “Trail, All Mountain, Enduro? You name it. Mondraker’s most innovative, most efficient and most capable mountain bike is set to deliver on any trail.” and if you weren’t convinced, Mondraker goes on to say: “Foxy Carbon 29 is THE wonder BIKE and knows no barriers, with total versatility and pushing the boundaries from Trail to Enduro Racing ideal for any type of use and rider regardless of their skills.”

The Foxy XR features a coilover Fox shock
The Foxy R is the more affordable version, though still with SRAM (GX) Eagle 1×12 gears.
£4499 will snag you one of these bikes of the future.

So that’s the hyperbole taken care of, what are the numbers? This long travel 29er Wonder Bike will feature 150mm rear travel, designed for a 160mm 29er fork.

There will be three UK models:
Foxy Carbon 29 XR – Blue/Red
Foxy Carbon 29 RR – Raw Black/Yellow (though we reckon it’s black and orange)
Foxy Carbon 29 R – Raw Black/Blue

The bikes will come in four sizes and, surprisingly for a long travel 29er, will go as low as a 15in small size, up to a 20in XL.

The bike will feature Forward Geometry, of course, but will take in modern appointments like a metric trunnion shock. There is adjustable geometry on the XR frame and bike, with a +/- 1° head angle. In keeping with other big travel 29ers (like the recent Ibis Ripmo) the Foxy is designed for a shorter offset 44mm fork (rather than the more normal 51mm) and, as you’d expect, it’s all Boost and 1x specific out back.

A BB73 threaded bottom bracket shell makes a welcome appearance and there’s an ISCG 05 mount for chain taming capabilities. There is a lifetime warranty on the frame.

The claimed weights put all the models within sight of the fabled 30lbs mark and we reckon they’re going to be a bit of a hit.
