Video: Nine Knights 2017 Highlights

by 0

Nine Knights is an invite only freeride event that happens once a year, with an unusual concept: they want to create a venue for the riders to push themselves, but also, they want it to be a place where photographers and film makers can experiment too (for instance see this fantastic shot, or the results of their 2017 photo competition here).

You can read more about the Nine Knights course here. It’s located in the Reschenpass, in the Südtirol region of Italy, most famous for it’s view of the sunken 14th century church sticking out of an artificial lake made in the 1950’s (you can also spot the tower in issue 115 of Singletrack!).

The 2017 edition was barely a month ago, and they’ve just released this video of highlights:

The course. Not small.

“The Suzuki Nine Knights MTB is a unique media event. It brings together some of the world’s best freeride mountain bikers, as well as, photographers and film makers, for a week long super session that offers extraordinary shooting and riding options.

“The aim is to document the athletes in a fun, creative and pressure free environment, an ideal setting for progression. Together, the team creates breathtaking images and footage, most often at sunrise and sunset when the mountains are their most colorful. The public highlight is the Slopestyle Competition.”

  • Riders: 9+ invited world-class athletes freeride mountain biking, plus special guests and qualifiers
  • Wild Card Qualification: FOCUS “Become a Knight” Online Video Qualifications
  • Winning categories: Overall Champion, Best Style, Best Wip, Contest winners
  • Other: Action sports photographers compete in a creative photo contest
    • “The Suzuki Nine Knights is awesome! I love the freedom we have to ride all week with the only goals being to have fun, experiment and create epic content. The crew vibes are what makes it special; everyone riding together and not against each other is what sets this apart from your usual contest. The build is special too, with a forward thinking and progressive team, there really are no rules so it’s a chance to build some incredible features.” – Sam Reynolds

David started mountain biking in the 90’s, by which he means “Ineptly jumping a Saracen Kili Racer off anything available in a nearby industrial estate”. After growing up and living in some extremely flat places, David moved to Yorkshire specifically for the mountain biking. This felt like a horrible mistake at first, because the hills are so steep, but you get used to them pretty quickly. Previously, David trifled with road and BMX, but mountain bikes always won. He’s most at peace battering down a rough trail, quietly fixing everything that does to a bike, or trying to figure out if that one click of compression damping has made things marginally better or worse. The inept jumping continues to this day.
