“The latest innovation in rear suspension from Cane Creek Cycling Components was unveiled today. Introducing the DBcoil [IL] and VALT® lightweight spring; the streamlined coil shock designed specifically for shorter-mid travel bikes. Born of a desire to bridge the performance gap between trail bikes and long travel downhill rockets, the new DBcoil[IL] brings all of the function of a external reservoir coil shock into a lighter and sleeker package.” – Cane Creek

Like the existing Double Barrel coil rear shock, the new in-line [IL] version also features Twin Tube damping technology, and fully independent adjustability of high-speed compression, low-speed compression, high-speed rebound, and low-speed rebound damping. It also gets the proprietary CS-optimised climbing damping, which sees a gold lever engaging a firmer pedalling mode that is ideal for longer travel trail bikes.

The difference between the new DBcoil [IL] rear shock and the existing DBcoil rear shock is weight. 333 grams to be precise, which Cane Creek have whittled away by using the in-line damper as oppose to the piggyback design of their conventional shocks. The result is a lighter and more compact unit.

The Cane Creek DBcoil[IL] Rear Shock features:

  • Weight: 285 grams without spring
  • Designed to fit the Valt lightweight spring
  • Twin-Tube Damper
  • Damping adjustments: compression (high & low-speed), rebound (high & low-speed)
  • Climb Switch (CS) Technology
  • Handbuilt in North Carolina, USA

Also new is the Valt spring. Built to be the lightest coil spring they could design, the Valt offers weight savings of 50-211 grams depending on overall length. Along with the DBcoil [IL] damper, the total package can take some serious weight off your bike without sacrificing that lovely coil feel.

Or at least that’s what Cane Creek promises anyway. Interested in the Valt for your existing coil shock? Cane Creek have built the Valt coil with a large inner diameter to increase compatibility with other brands rear shocks too.

“VALT® is a lightweight coil spring that offers a significant weight reduction over standard steel springs. Designed to be as light as possible without sacrificing action or durability, the high quality steel in VALT® allows for less material to be used in the coils.” – Cane Creek
