What is a map? Well, I do actually know what a map is; it’s a bit of paper with a picture of a bit of the earth on it. The Collins English Dictionary puts it thus: “a diagrammatic representation of the earth’s surface or part of it, showing the geographical distributions, positions, etc, of natural or artificial features such as roads, towns, relief, rainfall, etc”.
