Need another reason to visit Scotland? How about the second annual Cream o’ the Croft – “Scotland’s Mountain Bike Festival” 17-19 June?
Intended to appeal to entire families (even those with little interest in mountain biking), Cream o’ the Croft positions itself as much a music and beer festival as mountain bike event. For adults, there will be the aforementioned beer, along with everything from a championship-series trials competition to skills and coaching sessions to an enduro race to a pedal-powered film night. Youngsters can find their inner competitor via the toddler coaching or Mini Enduro (for racers aged 6-13 years).
Organised by Muckmedden, the weekend’s overarching theme is laid-back family fun. According to one of last year’s attendees, “the atmosphere was great – we really liked the ‘home-spun’ feel to it all. It was good that we didn’t feel we were getting ‘fleeced’ at every turn: everything seemed to be included in the weekend pass cost and there was no further cash needed for things such as the bucking bronco, pedal powered Scalextric/smoothie maker, etc. The guy on the tannoy for the races was fab! The kids in our party had a great time (age 7 and 9) and it felt safe just letting them run around the whole site without supervision. We all really enjoyed the whole weekend and would definitely book up for next year. Thanks and well done.”
The main stage’s sound system will be 100% pedal-powered and Friday evening will see the pedal-powered Scottish premiere of Anthill Films’ Not2Bad. Venue Comrie Croft event is about an hour by road north of Glasgow or Edinburgh and readily accessed via coach.
