Barney told me the new Lapierre Spicy was *cough* an acquired taste, and he wasn’t understating it. Approaching from an angle I thought “That doesn’t look so ba-OH”. See for yourself below.
Spicy 527
First up is the Spicy 527, with a fancy electronic shock and 165mm or rear travel. The e:i shock has a top cap mounted computer, along with sensors in the Pikes up front and a cadence sensor. From that data, the little computer interprets the terrain the front of the bike is hitting and continually adapts the rear shock accordingly. You can read more about it from Lapierre here. As well as that, Mavic wheels, Maxxis rubber, and SRAM bits for going and stopping.
This black thing, lit in purple next to something bright in a dark bit of the hall, is the Lapierre Spicy 527.This is quite a flattering angle. You can use the bottle cage bosses for one of two things: Juice for your belly, or juice for your e-shock.Difficult to see here, but it’s SRAM X01Race geometryAn arty tight crop.SRAM Guide stoppers.Arty shot from above ‘cos the ‘tog’s knees were getting stiff .There’s the e:i shock.“Old Macdonald had a sho- I’ll pretend I’m above making that joke by cleverly cutting it short with something a tiny bit meta.Intriguing top-cap shock control.Bits of it look sleek.Battery for the e:i shock
Spicy 327
Next up is the slightly more visible, lower specced 327. No fancy electronics here, just a straightforward (apart from the top tube) full suss sprung by fox, driven by SRAM, stopped by Shimano. Like the 527, the 327 has 160mm up front and 165mm travel at the back. The frame is labelled “e:i Shock ready”, though I’m not sure why you’d buy this only to change both the forks and shock later. It has slightly lower spec Mavic wheels, this time shod with Schwalbe Hans Dampfs.
David started mountain biking in the 90’s, by which he means “Ineptly jumping a Saracen Kili Racer off anything available in a nearby industrial estate”. After growing up and living in some extremely flat places, David moved to Yorkshire specifically for the mountain biking. This felt like a horrible mistake at first, because the hills are so steep, but you get used to them pretty quickly.
Previously, David trifled with road and BMX, but mountain bikes always won. He’s most at peace battering down a rough trail, quietly fixing everything that does to a bike, or trying to figure out if that one click of compression damping has made things marginally better or worse. The inept jumping continues to this day.
Makes my Mondraker look pretty.
I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.
It’s almost like they know how ugly it is with the lighting on the carbon.
The bells……..The bells……….
That top tube reminds me of the old SC Nomad
Is it too early for pooing dog?
Brokeback Mountainbike
reminds me of this, if it works, don’t remember seeing an image in a news comment:
