ION’s K-Pact pads have a well-fitting sleeve backed up with top and bottom velcro straps for a bit of fine-tune tweaking. With preformed ergonomic shaping, I soon forgot I was wearing them. The sleeve secured the pad well when pedalling and needed minimal strap tightening to stay in place, which added up to a very comfortable feel. The SAS-TEC armour conforms well to the shape of the leg, adding to the unobtrusive feel while still offering plenty of impact protection. Similar to other compounds, it’s flexible until impact when it stiffens to absorb impact forces. Asymmetric side padding offers additional protection from top tube hits and trailside scrapes. In use the K-Pacts proved to be a cool set of pads, with the perforated neoprene and mesh backing allowing plenty of heat loss when pedalling. With good protection and coverage these are perfect for big days in the mountains.
