Ian Storer, who once compared mountain bike racing to jousting, now sings the praises of the humble and sometimes dented and dangerous, but always wonderful white van.

It all started a couple of years (smaller) vehicles head on; the familiar the van and even slept in the van on one ago with the theft of John’s plush Orion ‘Ghia’ from outside of his house. The felons in question had the audacity to dump said Ford a few streets away (after having made sure it was an insurance write-off) to be re-claimed at the owner’s expense.

  1. I have a mid-top M7 white transit, it’s awesome.

  2. And yet single track opt for a VW transporter. How many extras did VW give you exactly?

  3. I used to have a small Fiat van, which we used to go camping in. But I have a Citroen C3 Picasso now and with the back seats flat I can get my bike in (just) if I take the front wheel off. and with The Boot Buddy completely covering floor and sides of load area a muddy bike is no problem!

  4. They’ve given us a lot of extras. But then we’ve paid for all of them. Seemed a fair exchange.

For the record, our new van was based entirely on price and function. We’ve not had any financial help from VW and no special treatment.

  5. Best thing I ever did was get a van for riding. No wheels off, no mud on the ceiling of the car, room to change, room to sleep and everyone wants to be your friend when they want to move/go to the tip etc. 🙂
