Singletrack Nominated In 3 Award Categories

by 1

It’s awards time once again and we’ve just heard that we’ve been nominated in three categories in this year’s Bikebiz awards.

We’ve been nominated in..

  • Specialist Consumer Print Publication
  • Specialist Consumer Site
  • Best Use of Social Media

There’s loads of awards to be won out there – in fact we are also nominated in the O2 Media Awards for Specialist Publication of the Year, but the Bikebiz awards are the ones that mean the most to us. They are judged by our own peers from within the bike industry itself and are awarded each year in a hired out hotel conference room close the the venue of Birmingham’s annual Bike Show. There’s no fancy tuxedos required for these awards, just a bunch of beers and some buffet food balanced on your knee along with the chance to catch up with a whole bunch of like minded industry types. We’ve worked hard at Singletrack to not just be another mag but a magazine that works as much for the industry as we do for our readers. Riding bikes is fundamentally a positive thing and we like to think we help not just the riders but the bike shops and distributors who exist to serve them. We are chuffed to bits that many of our industry friends have seen fit to recognise that and nominate us for an award.

We’ve won awards here in the past (2009 & 2010) and we’ve lost them (2012) but we enthusiastically clap and cheer the winners all the same and drink beers and finally get to chat with all our industry pals without the usual publishing/marketing agendas that get in the way the rest of the year.

It’s a good night all round and we are genuinely honoured to have been nominated 5 years in a row. The competition isn’t getting any easier though, and we are up against some excellent publications and websites. But this year we’ve been nominated in the relatively recent category of Best use of Social Media. Sarcastic twitterings and endless pictures of Friday afternoon beers would seem to be the key to an award nomination. Our twitter name is @singletrackmag if you want to have a look. We’ve also got over 20,000 fans on our Facebook page too.

The awards are handed out on the 25th September. If we win, we’ll shout about it. If we don’t, we’ll still tell you who did.

The scope of the awards goes much further than just websites and mags. The full list of awards and their final nominees is here.

Mark Alker

Singletrack Owner/Publisher

What Mark doesn’t know about social media isn’t worth knowing and his ability to balance “The Stack” is bested only by his agility on a snowboard. Graphs are what gets his engine revving, at least they would if his car wasn’t electric, and data is what you’ll find him poring over in the office. Mark enjoys good whisky, sci-fi and the latest Apple gadget, he is also the best boss in the world (Yes, he is paying me to write this).
