Tuesday Treats 36: Big Peaks

by singletrackjay 1

Your once a week dose of product fancy from Singletrack’s Premier Dealers, stockists and advertisers.

Tuesday Treats gives you a quality serving of independent bike retailing and a chance to win big, in this week’s prize draw.

This week, we introduce Big Peaks:

Devon Sunshine, right there

Pete picks up the story: “Big Peaks is a large out of town specialist bike store and adventure-sports retail outlet. You can find us in Ashburton, on the eastern edge of the stunning Dartmoor National Park.

Our store is a modern bike warehouse with fully equipped workshop. We offer visitors access to our quality coffee bar, which sits just inside the front door and there’s sofas for just pondering (or planning your next purchases!)

Retail joy, fully stoked and a friendly Devon welcome assured

We stock the very finest lines from Trek, Genesis, Kona, Orange, Salsa, Merida and do a very well respected custom builds programme; including Ibis, Liteville, Cinelli and Qoroz. There’s plenty of choice.”

What’s your current best-selling/hottest product?

Our hottest selling products are 29ers! We have been doing 29ers for many years now and all that hard work has paid off. They are certainly the hottest product about right now. Yee Haa!

Which product/brand does every staff member have on their bike?

Nearly all of us have USE Exposure lights on our bikes.

What was the last custom build you did?

Easter tinsel

Recent custom builds we’ve finished include a rather spicy but rather light Salsa Mamasita, weighing in at at very respectable 22lb. We’ve also put together an Ibis Mojo HD 160, finished in no-expense-spared build kit, lovely. Talk to us about your plans and let us guide you through making it happen.

Tell us something about your shop/staff that no-one knows…

We love testing new products, that’s probably not a surprise to you lot, and we like to share the experience. That’s where our Demo Fleet comes into its own. Currently we’ve got an Ibis Mojo 160, Kona Explosif 650b, Trek EX8, Genesis Fortitude Race and Kona Hei Hei Deluxe 29er, all in-store for test. That’s a fair range of bike wheel sizes, suspension and travel options for you to try out. Contact us to discuss sizing and book a test slot now! We’re also over on Twitter, so come and say hello.

Our store is also home to the friendliest people in the world. Bar none. Let us prove it to you.

Is there a regular shop ride or forthcoming event you think our readers should know about?

We host regular ‘after work’ shop rides, every Thursday night (throughout the year). We ride locally over Dartmoor and Haldon Forest.

A very special event is happening this very weekend, on Sunday 21 April. It’s the annual Devon Dirt none the less. Devon Dirt is a 65k off-road endurance event over Dartmoor with cake stops! (yes you read that right). Last year we had over 400 riders and despite the poor start to the year (weather wise), are well on track to make this year’s event a very special experience this weekend. We can’t wait.

What do Singletrack Premier Subscribers get from you guys?
