iXS MacAvalanche is this weekend!

If you’re at a loss for things to do this weekend, then you could do a lot worse than heading up to Glencoe Mountain Resort and taking part in one of the most exciting events that’ll take place in the UK this year.

The  iXS MacAvalanche, Britain’s biggest mass-start downhill enduro is kicking off this Saturday and Sunday the 28th and 29th April. Racing from the snow covered peak of Meall a’ Buiridh, competitors will smash over over heather and rock to the base station 750 vertical metres below. This year entrants will get more riding that ever, with the two chairlifts open all weekend for a practise session and qualifying heats on the Saturday before racing on the Sunday.

As it’s organised by No Fuss Events, the people behind the equally loopy Fort William Endurance Downhill, you can be guaranteed a smooth running but laid back time. Web boy Jon took part last year and it was without doubt his favourite the event of the year. To get a flavour of the event you can read his online feature but the video below should help you get quite excited about the event:

There are still a few places left for the race itself, but if you miss out on those then it’s well worth going to spectate and see some of Britain’s best riders cartwheel over heather, snow and rock – and you’ll find yourself in one of the most beautiful places in the UK when it’s all over…
