Today we are mostly watching…

…Danny Hart’s jaw-dropping World Champs winning race run. If you missed it, the Giant-sponsored rock star stormed to victory in a wet and slippery Champery to take the 2011 UCI World Championship DH title by eleven seconds. ELEVEN SECONDS! That’s a very big margin in downhill racing. Here’s the new king as he was just a few years ago, when he was smaller than a pint of ale but still faster than everybody he rode with:

Future World Champion?
"Future World Champion? (2005)". Image thanks to Tom Levell, friend of Singletrack and part-time clairvoyant.

Big congratulations to Manon Carpenter too, who took gold in the junior women’s race, and Rachel Atherton, who finished second to Emmeline Ragot in the senior women after sitting out most of the season with injury. The Brits have been storming this year – well done all round.

We’ve not received any race images to run with this story yet – we suspect the PR folk at Giant and Saracen are still nursing their celebration headaches – but, if you haven’t already done so, then we suggest you type the three magic words ‘DANNY HART WINNING’ into Google and prepare to be amazed.

Don’t forget Fionn Griffiths’ silver in women’s 4X (on her DH bike)

And Annie Last’s silver in women’s U23 Cross Country

Apparently it’s on Freecaster…. but i need to wait until i finish work to see it at home on’t Interweb. Hurry up clock…. 4:15 beckons not soon enough….

Oh, does Tom Levell post on here? He used to be SingletrAction Head of Trail Design at FC Guisborough, haven’t heard of him for ages.

I think that’s probably the best riding I have ever seen. Simply incredible.

from the commentary on pinkbike “how does he sit down with balls that big” just love it.

For those having to wait till you get home, don’t worry, you won’t be disappointed. I can not believe that he didn’t even put his feet down half the time. Astounding

    /waves/
    I’m around sporadically.

    Damn he is something special.
What is happening with Freecaster? I have seen the whole of the UCI downhilll season for free on freecaster now for the worlds I have to pay……. I understand economics but thought they received fat cheques through Advertising revenue and links chargeing…. the scummers

Legend, legend, legend…. I never thought I’d be emotionally moved by mountain biking (well anyones apart from mine that is) but that comes pretty close !

The run’s on Youtube now, but honestly, better to wait til the full highlights are up and see it in context, to really appreciate what he did.

some amazing skill, gave me goosebumps when he did the tailwhip and crossed the line. Or maybe it was the commentary…

    “What is happening with Freecaster?”

I think they get charged a tonne of extra cash to receive the camera feeds for the World Championships. The alternative would be to charge a bit more to watch the whole World Cup series, and they’d rather not. I guess because that is funded by clicks and advertising, and charging for everything would reduce the number of clicks, and consequently the fee they can charge advertisiers.

I previously got frustrated and gave up with live freecaster because the quality of transmission was so poor it was unwatchable, freezing and dropping out all the time. The step-up in quality this year, to be able to watch every event live, was easily worth the money IMO.

Freecaster coverage of racing always seems to be hanging on a thread. I’ve enjoyed watching 4X and DH so much this year, I will probably buy it next year, whatever the package.
