Mountain Bike Racing Returns to Lee Quarry This September

by 1

Here’s the dates for Series 2 of the Brownbacks Cross Country Mountain Bike Racing Series sponsored by Hope with three dates in the autumn. Races will take place on Sunday 6 September, Sunday 27 September and Sunday 18 October.

Paul McKeown (Chair of Brownbacks) comments: “We were delighted with the support we received and the success we had with Series 1 with over 200 entrants. Some riders travelled from as far afield as Edinburgh and Herefordshire to compete. For Series 2 we are introducing some new categories and course layouts to keep those that might have entered before on their toes and look forward to seeing some new racers alongside the familiar faces at the starting line”.

The format for Series 2 is still a simple single race with a staggered start for the various categories. For Series 2 there are a range of prizes for all categories and we now have categories for those aged 15 – 17 years. Those aged 15 and 16 years can now enter in the new “Lads and Lasses” categories and 17 year olds can enter any of the main race categories. Those aged under 18 will need bring a parent/ guardian on the day to complete the consent form.

Sponsors Hope are to provide a series trophy for a trade team competition for bike shops. It’s just for fun, but it will be interesting to see who is the fastest bike shop in the area is!

Race day registration opens at 08:30, closes at 09:30 with races starting at 10:00am on the day. Details of how to enter, further race information and online entry can be found at the Brownbacks website – http://www.brownbacksracing.co.uk

Orange Switch 6er. Stif Squatcher. Schwalbe Magic Mary Purple Addix front. Maxxis DHR II 3C MaxxTerra rear. Coil fan. Ebikes are not evil. I have been a writer for nigh on 20 years, a photographer for 25 years and a mountain biker for 30 years. I have written countless magazine and website features and route guides for the UK mountain bike press, most notably for the esteemed and highly regarded Singletrackworld. Although I am a Lancastrian, I freely admit that West Yorkshire is my favourite place to ride. Rarely a week goes by without me riding and exploring the South Pennines.
