Would be great to see Wiggo cycling up in Yellow to light it but for Olympic greatness Sir Steve would be hard to beat.

    Who is you money on?

Redgrave is a supporter of Chelsea football club.

How can you put someone forward that not only follows football but supports Chelsea?

    Sir Roger Bannister.

Daly Thompson – anyone who gets a legendary computer game named after them gets my vote. Also he could use his decathlon skills to make his was up there; it’d be awesome.

Why is the debate Redgrave or Thompson? Wiggins has won more medals, 3 golds a silver and 2 bronze.

    Let em all do it.

Redgrave rows the torch down the canal, hands over to Wiggo to ride it into the stadium where he hands it to Bannister for a jog around the track before Daley pole vaults one-handed into the cauldron with the torch in the other hand.

Redgrave 17 golds across competitions over 16 years is quite impressive in anyone’s book. More impressive in such a demanding sport too.
That’s not to take anything away from the achievements of others.

Thompson – STW obviously likes a butch muscular man with a moustache 😉
Redgrave – well 5 golds at 5 different Olympics do you need to ask? FWIW he has 6 like Wiggo as he a Bronze from 88 as well

I dont think even wiggins thinks he is as great an Olympian as Redgrave.
Bannister never won a medal at the olympics but the sub 4 minute gives him some Kudos

Did Redgrave ever compete on his own or as a team?

    The criteria should be:

    1. A person who has won the most gold medals on his/her own.
    2. A person who is not endorsed by sponsors.
    3. A person who has not become a celebrity.
    4. A person who has scarified a lot for sports but gain very little.

    🙄

    Yes.

    THE COMMONWEALTH GAMES

    Event: Commonwealth Games
    Year: 1986
    Achievement: Gold Medal Single Sculls
And of course any boat with more than one person can be considered a team. 😉

In all seriousness Redgrave as the greatest Olympian. It was not about being on top form for one Olympics but several.

My bad, I’ve always considered Redgrave was a bit crap anyway, he only beat our crew because stroke lost his seat, so we kind of gave the victory to him on a plate.

Can’t think of any myself …

I think Kelly Holmes should be fine as she won 2 golds at the grand old age of 34 but the question is … has she become a celebrity?

Others seem to be too in your face with sponsors written all over and media constantly mentioning them.

    OK Take your pick
But why can’t it be a team and only One single person ?
