I'm interested in buying half a pig (a side of pork), but NOT butchered and preferably from a reasonable quality source. Does anyone have any experience/recommendations?

Local abbatoir.
Talk to them about whats coming in.
Even better, talk to your local rare breed farmer and buy direct. He can have half a carcass put to one side next time he takes some stock for killingPosted 1 year ago # -
Thanks Stoner. Anyone have an estimate of cost? Obviously it will vary depending on weight. I have seen them advertised for ~£120 butchered, but this might not be free-range.

Yes, speak to a local farmer / farm shop and they'll be able to sort one out. These are our friendly farmers:

Fantastic. It's a friends birthday present, I am anticipating spending a day butchering, making bacon/salami etc. with him.
Thanks all.

I'd have thought the local butcher would still be able to sell you one, before they do their stuff. They get delivered whole don't they (minus innards). Or do you mean you want all the guts and bits too, in which case perhaps not?

Isn't the internet brilliant?
Hmm.
You buy "half a pig" - usually known as a "side" of pork, butchered in the standard way,
...
Unfortunantely, we only supply locallyPosted 1 year ago # -

If he really wants it he'll go and collect.

it doesnt lend itself to rhyme quite as well as....
A one... two-- A one... two... three... four...
Half a bee, philosophically,
Must, ipso facto, half not be.
But half the bee has got to be
Vis a vis, its entity. D'you see?But can a bee be said to be
Or not to be an entire bee
When half the bee is not a bee
Due to some ancient injury?Singing...
La dee dee, one two three,
Eric the half a bee.
A B C D E F G,
Eric the half a bee.Is this wretched demi-bee,
Half-asleep upon my knee,
Some freak from a menagerie?
No! It's Eric the half a bee!Fiddle de dum, Fiddle de dee,
Eric the half a bee.
Ho ho ho, tee hee hee,
Eric the half a bee.I love this hive, employee-ee,
Bisected accidentally,
One summer afternoon by me,
I love him carnally. He loves him carnally,
Semi-carnally.
The end.Cyril Connelly?
No; semi-carnally!
Oh.Cyril Connelly.
