'Worst' implies an element of choice, which in evolutionary terms is irrelevant.
So we'll have to leave out the ability to refine oil, the switch from hunter gatherer to a more agrarian existence, the abandoning of pagan beliefs in the rush to embrace the Abrahamic religions and many, many other ruinous practices.So I'll go for either:
1. The removal of raisins from the bottom layer of the Double Decker.
2. The illegal fielding of Carlos Tevez by West Ham in the 2006/2007 Premieship Football season, resulting in the relegation and subsequent demise of Sheffield United as a viable team.

I'd say that the relegation of Sheff Utd must have been one of mans greatest acheivements. I'm looking forward to seeing it happen again this year.
