Swanage for a holiday and pootling?

Worth going to Swanage purely because it is near one of the great pubs. Square & Compasses at Worth Matravers - pubs like this are dying out.
The ride from Corfe Castle over Nine barrow Down to Old Harry rocks and then down to Studland beach is also great. Steam train from Swanage to Corfe. Corfe Castle itself. Brownsea Island. Swanage is ok in a Punch & Judy/knotted hankie way.
So. Yea.

I didnt take a bike, but there are some really nice beaches. Quite pricey from what I can remember. Eg: £6 to park on the NT car-park next to the pub where bikemonger is having his bash. (And that was 2006). And seemingly lots of expensive second homes with big gates. I'd love to go back. Can highly recomend Pear Tree Park for camping, but again, not cheap at £25 a night.

Grew up there, its nice.
Riding is good, especially for 29'r, and pubs are great.

fair amount of riding but don't make the wrong asssumption that because it's in the south it will be flat. dorset is steep - very steep and ramps up a fair way from sea level too.
just something you may wish to consider having seen some of your other postings.

It's not gnarcore riding but plenty of good loops can be done with very little road work. Relentless short sharp climbs and with them descents. Some route may have to be altered though depending on if the Lulworth range is open.

Going down that way in August for a week for a uk based hol this year, wasnt plannign on taking the bike but may reconsider..

I'm going down next weekend, staying @ Norden Farm, mainly cycling and walking, bus service is excellent so don't need to use the car for a couple of weeks.

- chain ferry to Poole, and there is a Prom (see brown dots long seafront - http://www.bing.com/maps/#JnE9LnBvb2xlJTdlc3N0LjAlN2VwZy4xJmJiPTU0LjcwNTgzMzU1OTcxODklN2UxMC4wNTM0NjQ2MzY2MjUlN2U0OC4yMzIyODE3Mjc2MTA0JTdlLTEwLjI3MTI0MjM5NDYyNQ==) that goes from a bit into Poole all the way to Christchurch (and you can loop round Hengistbury head along beach - beware a nature rserve so you're probably not meant to) **BEWARE - there are seasonal cycling restrictions on this and also after 10 am it'll be so busy as to not be pleasant - but at 7am on a sunny morn it's GLORIOUS little bimble (check cafe opening times some might open at 9)area here (http://www.bing.com/maps/#JnE9LnBvb2xlJTdlc3N0LjAlN2VwZy4xJmJiPTU0LjcwNTgzMzU1OTcxODklN2UxMC4wNTM0NjQ2MzY2MjUlN2U0OC4yMzIyODE3Mjc2MTA0JTdlLTEwLjI3MTI0MjM5NDYyNQ==) sort of betwen ferry/Wareham/Corfe can be pootled (you might even see a large nodding donkey)around some hills at Corfe but worth it for fab views and a stemtrain to play with, alo try to do path that goes to Old Hary rocks, near Studland (*It's a naturist beach...), also some rather plesny hiller stuff to E and N of Swange
