    I live in north Manchester where they are referred to as specs (obviously)and gigs.

    Are there any other regional slang words? And an explanation would be nice. Sorry I can’t explain gigs!

    brakes – bin lid is rhymimg slang for a quid where I come from “can you lend us a bin lid ’til tomorrow.”

    Although having worn glasses from quite an early age I can assure you the most common phrase is “You speccy four eyed tw*t” and is usually accompanied by a thorough beating.

    I can confirm that some 20 miles North from the OP it’s still ‘gigs’.
