I need a new pair of running shoes as the pair i have now are to big.

the place i went to get them from has closed down so i would like to buy a pair online if possible.

is there a good online running shoe shop??

if so can you recommend any decent shoes for an 18 stone fatty!!

personally, I'd go into a specialised shop. that said, I got some nikeIDs and the fit is great – don't really run in those tho. run in asics and now adidas

Go and get fitted. Most running shoes are designed around the 'average' build – and that isn't 18 stone. You'd max out all but the most cushioned and supportive shoes, therefore getting no use from them.
Go to a proper shop and pay their price – which will be fair and accompanied by a proper fitting. Then you're free to buy the replacements wherever you like.

Purely anecdotal, but I had a pair I bought of the interweb and trained in them 4 times a week for 9 months culminating in running the Great North Run in a very reasonable time for a non-runner (1hr 45min). They fitted great, were comfortable, didn't give me any problems and cost about £30.

Then I got a pair *properly* fitted at Up & Running in Harrogate because I over-pronate (or so I am told). They cost me the best part of £100 and are uncomfortable, my feet slip around in them and I get pins and needles when running uphill.

Some running shoes come with a number rating to suit a certain type of gait like 10 or 20 some times part of a longer number. By buying any old pair you could be using the opposite of what you need and end up injured.
I bought the shoes from the specialist shop the first time and found the same pair £20 cheaper on the high street. Although in the past I bought any old pair without any problems but I didn't run very far.

Get fitted in a proper shop, then buy online. Just don't run past the shop so you don't have to deal with the guilt of it closing down.

Handy to find out what you need

hit and miss really. I've bought from sportshoes.com and they've been fine for my running. Then again, I bought some innov8s and they gave me blisters and sore feet. The poor fit might not become apparent until you've done a few miles in them.
