Hi guys not use to the post mount so can any one help pls!
Iv got a fork with post mount a 180 disc and a standard hope brake , iv just bought a post to standard mount 180 bracket but the brake is no where near the rotor! So I think i now need a 200 rotor? Or if i got a 160 mount will i be able to keep my 180 rotor and will this work ?
Thanks in advance Paul

firstly what type of hope brake is it? They usually comes in 180mm...if your brake is a post mount type as well as your fork it should be a direct fit

yep, with the standard caliper you have a post mount adaptor will add 20mm to your orignal rotor size. there is no adaptor to use the original 180mm.

The problem may be that there are two "standard" Hope IS brake calipers.

This thread may help.

I'm confused, I've got a post mount tech X2 and it came with a 160 Rotor and no mount. Isn't it 160 straight out of the box? It's the new ones not the union jack levers.

Mosey, santacruzyork is trying to fit an IS mount caliper to a post mount fork.
I had the same problem a while ago, which is why I posted the link to my thread.

Ah thats ok then, sorry for the hijack/confusion. Thought I'd wasted money on the wrong size rotor then.

What size rotor is the hope M4 IS caliper designed for?

If it is 160mm, then std post mount forks plus adaptor will require a 180mm rotor. Best bet is to take it to lbs & check with them before buying adaptor - mine had a few different hope adaptors in stock.

Despite assurances to the contrary I don't think there is any adaptor that doesn't add anything to the required rotor size when fitting IS calipers to post mount forks (& yes I have checked the AtoZ website before anyone makes that suggestion).

The brakes came with 180 front and 160 rear , i reckon im going to have to get a 200 rotor !

hope do a few mounts that to the casual observer do the same thing, I had a rear mount that was for a 183mm rotor but didnt fit the 183mm rotor i had fitted to my bike, cant remember what the letters were but I had a 'C' and needed a 'B' or something similar (they are all stamped with a letter). You will need to check a hope catalogue as you probably have the wrong 180mm mount.

santacruzyork, there are two different sizes of Hope IS mount caliper.
The smaller one bolted directly to an IS mount fork fits a 160mm disc.
The larger one bolted directly to an IS mount fork fits a 180mm disc.
It sounds like you have got the larger one.

It also sounds like you have got a +20mm mount, like this.

Which would need a 200mm disc to work.

What you need is one like this.

Any chance you can take a picture of what you've got ?
There will be a number stamped on the Hope caliper near one of the mounting holes. What is that number ?

If it helps, I've got the same problem. Bought a 'J' mount (I think) for a 180mm and the effing rotor went nowhere near it.

I put the 160 back on and went riding instead....

I can't see what you want on CRC.
Clee Cycles do three different KCNC adapters.
I reckon it's the top one you want, although it might be best to phone them to check. I wouldn't want you spending money on my recommendation in case I'm wrong.
It doesn't help that they call them 160, 180 and 200.
+0, +20 and +40 would make more sense.

Thanks MTQ looks like I stand corrected, just ordered one of the +0 from Clee Cycles & hope it solves my fork / caliper interface problem.

Thinking a bit more about this, Clee Cycles warn that "It may not fit all calipers to all forks as there is very little clearance on some designs!"
The Hope M4 is quite a chunky caliper. I'd definitely phone them first and ask them if they know from experience whether it will fit or not.

ah, so someone has finally made an adaptor that dosnt force you to up a rotor size, handy, if your caliper fits (shame they dont list them, cant be hard for a bike shop to check surely?)

Looks like I've bought the wrong adapter too!

Where can I get one of these mounts (+0)? Everywhere seems to be out of stock. 😯

You need one of these from Clee Cycles.

It looks like this on the bike, and allows you to run your rotor and caliper with no increase in rotor size. It's not that tight to the fork leg.

ps that's a 180mm Hope brake & disc.

In my experience they get stock back in reasonably often. Have you spoken to them? They were out of stock on the website when I got mine, I called them and they sent me one from the stock that arrived next day.

Good to hear! I filled out their contact form, so hopefully have an email soon! Really need it for 3 weeks time in the Alps.

EDIT: 2-3 weeks waiting... fingers crossed its 2 weeks not 3 !

Worst case scenario I might be able to rent you my adaptor for the period of your trip.

It's cross bike season so the MTB won't be getting that much use from Mid September.

Let me know if you're still struggling
