Up coming jaunt around Rome and Naples so looking for hotel recommendations. Need to be close to Termini in Rome as we’ll arive then depart by train. Naples less so, and anyway, I’m not keen on the train station area so will probably stay round the corner from that big marina as there used to be clean, cheap’ish hotels along the waterfront north of the bay.
Should be clean, cheap’ish, a bit more character than a Novotel

    Cheers.

Don’t stay in the one I stayed in, it was rubbish.

    I can’t remember its name tho 🙂

EDIT: this post probably is not helpful.

I’ve stayed here a couple of times http://www.hotellaurentia.com/

Just East of Termini in the university area. There is a great pizzeria (Pizza economica) just around the corner. The reviews on trip advisor are OK for it too.

both pretty good in Rome and often have cheap deals on
Not exactly near the station (which is a sh*thole area) but very close to Vatican and a short walk to Ottaviano Metro station for direct link to Termini
Far more convienient for nice restaurants etc too (just round corner from Atlante Garden on Via Propozerio is an excellent little family run Taverna)
(put it this way, in Rome rush hour from leaving the hotel to getting in the Colosseum was about 25 minutes)

As for Naples, can’t help there much, we czught the train out and stayed in Sorrento, catching train back into Naples etc

Hotel Milani is 2 mins from Termini. Not the grandest hotel in the world but cheap ish, clean and the staff are really helpful.

Priam Hotel Rome is, again, very close to Terminii and not a bad place. Just not brilliant.

However, there’s a B&B we saw just towards the Quirinale districts from the Colosseum on the Via des Serpentines (check the spelling), that looked good. They have a very nice bar and restaurant on the ground floor and it was a great place to relax. Not too far from the station either.

I’ll ask if they know you and if they do, I’ll tell them what you said.
