  • (possibly stupid) domestic electrics question – what are these boxes?

My new flat has these small boxes on the walls in every room. There is a dial on them that you can adjust to read “frost”, “warm”, etc.

I’m guessing they are controls for heating. Each room has electric storage heaters but these have controls on them anyway and I wouldn’t have thought that they were controlable enough to work with thermostats.

    Any ideas?

From the fuse rating they look like 3 kW heaters – maybe they’re a backup for winter of you’re away and the storage heaters are switched off eg just come on if the temp gets too low to stop things freezing?

    1. Cut the red wire.

    2. Please note it is probably best to get some insulated pliers before doing 1.

Couger, yes it does, and I’d appreciate it if you all kept your prying noses out of it.
