[Closed] Non-stick pans. Any dishwasher safe ones out there?

[#3298900]

Got a nice set of Le Creuset steel pans (for use on the new induction hob last september) and because I'm an idel oaf, I put the non-stick frying pans and milkpan in the dishwasher.

The non-stick coating is peeling back from the rim so will soon be unusable despite the pan body itself being immaculate.

Anyone know of any specifically dishwasher safe, ferromagnetic, non-stick pans?

Does the guarantee not specifically cover the non-stick debonding? (Pretty sure that's what Tefal's does)

Id assumed that DWing non-stick was abuse and not warrantied, but on closer reading:

http://www.lecreuset.co.uk/en-GB/Help--Advice/Care--Use/Care--Use---3-ply-Stainless-Steel/

maybe I should have a go at claiming...

i got a superb one from lidl. weighs a ton, surface is awesome and it seems impervious to the dishwasher.

How can a pan surface be suitable for the intense heat of cooking and frying, but not the 90 degrees or so in a dishwasher? Makes no sense.

i haven't got a degree in physics or anything but i reckon the two processes are reasonably disimilar.

Why's that then? The only difference I can see is a somewhat caustic chemical in contact. By the same token I'd find it hard to imagine dishwasher detergent manufacturers would make something that could strip even cheap non-stick off.

i don't know, i'll try frying some veg in caustic soda and see if the non-stick peels off.
i'll keep you in the loop.

I thought it was the DW detergent that did for non-stick. It certainly did our old anolon pans.

just spoken to the v nice Maria @ le creuset uk and she's asked for photos of the problem, saying that the pans really are tested to be dishwasher safe.

so, fingers crossed. I know Ive done nothing with them that I shouldnt have beyond normal everyday use.....

The dishwasher washing process does seem to be quite aggressive.

We've got some old, cheap Tesco pans that really need replacing, but were holding up relatively well.
Since moving house and buying a dishwasher, the anodising on the pans is getting completely mullered. I assume it not hard anodised.

Non-stick surfaces are fairly delicate, aren't they?

Although, Stoner, reading the guarantee link there is specific mention of using them in a dishwasher, so it doesn't seem like they recommend you don't do this.....

this is the worst of them. TBH the other two arent anything like as bad as this one.

Anway, shall send the pics off to le creuset and see what they say.

The rest of the 3-ply range are great, so it would be a shame to have to get some different non-sticks.

Put in a warranty claim. I work in this industry and know that the shops get loads of Le Creuset non-stick returns with a peeling coating.

They seem to honour the warranty and provide replacements willingly though.

What I like about Stoner, is that he often seems to post up a thread that's been on my mind for ages.

Hurrah for STW. So good, it reads your mind..!

I just looked up Le Creuset 3 ply on Google. Cripes, they aren't cheap!

If I'd spent that much on some pans, I'd want them to survive thermo-nuclear war let alone 90mins in a Bosch!

LOLz at the state of that pan

what gets me is that the damage must have been incremental so it makes me wonder at what point stoner might have started thinking that its days were numbered ๐Ÿ˜†

when my wallet could hide no more ๐Ÿ˜‰

Anyway, the pan still works, it's just not very pretty. Bit like darcy really.

Excellent. With the money you've just saved by following my advice, you can buy me a new wok instead.

I remember reading that as the coating breaks down, toxic fumes are produced during use, said fumes being responsible for killing budgies and parrots in large numbers. Dogs can also be affected, but humans are impervious.

Anyhoo....

Use cheap dishwasher tabs and they muller glasses in a few washes. Decent Finish or other tarty brand seem to be much kinder.

In so far as I haven't replaced mine yet, yes. I'm not sure as "searching" is the correct verb here though. Idly [s]p[/s]manhandling goods in TK Maxx whilst OH looks at shoes and handbags, perhaps.

Nothing to do with your lovely craftsmanship DD but that floor looks a little out of place in that house, somehow. Looks like a modern estate house with workaday carpet then a slab of lovely parquet floor.. seems weird.

seems weird.

You're telling me. For some reason, they didn't want the section down the side of the stairs done. Underneath mine is an old battered wooden floor. They were simply replacing that. But, yes, it looks a but silly. They couldn't be told though.

That explains the inch step-up into the room. They aren't doing the others?

No accounting for taste eh ๐Ÿ™‚

Nope! ๐Ÿ˜ก

It's not an inch! And the thresholds are machined and chamfered. ๐Ÿ™‚

Arsebiscuits. Found out. Actually, even for an iPhone camera, those pics were crap. Any better? (for quality of finish?)

Why would you put a non-stick pan in a dishwasher?

We've got some German pans that look a bit like these -
http://tiny.cc/hj6ds

have lasted a good few years and show no signs of wearing out. Any Teflon pans I've had, even the expensive 'hard andodised' ones, have worn out or been damaged pretty quickly

Non-stick pans still need washing, don't they?

Mine just gets a quick rinse and a dry with the dishcloth - wouldn't dream of being an idel oaf and shagging it into the dishwasher. ๐Ÿ™‚
