I'm thinking of dropping strong hints to my GF that I'd like a Kelly Kettle for my birthday. I don't really intend to use it for cycle touring, but more for dinghy/sea-kayak touring and bivvy trips with the kids, etc so I don't necessarily have to go for the smallest, most lightweight one.

Does anyone have any experience of them and what might be the most practical size to have? Also, I know that there are alternatives, some cheaper, can anyone recommend any of these or tell me what to avoid?

Also, are the cooking kits that you can get to go with them any good?

    Cheers, Rich.

Bloke at work uses one ( 1.5ltr I think ) occasionally it boils water pretty quickly and you don't need much stuff either to get it going. He's also got the attachment for the top so you can put a frying pan/pot on top.
