The American commentator at the worlds ITT last night compared Tony Martin passing David Millar with something that Germany couldn’t do in the second world war.

There was an audible intake of breath from thousands of people

There are so many from the great David Coleman but here’s a few

“And there goes Juantorena down the back straight, opening his legs and showing his class.”

“That’s the fastest time ever run – but it’s not as fast as the world record.”

“He is accelerating all the time. That last lap was run in 64 seconds and the one before in 62.”

Or how about Brian Johnson’s factually correct classic

“The batsman’s Holding, the bowler’s Willey”

“They think its all over, but we’ll be going on and on and on about it in every World Cup, every international match and every time England play as a football team for the next 100 years and then some….”

The best Warneism this year was actually “If he keeps riding like that he’ll end up with an a**e like a vintage golf bag!” (Danny Hart, Ft. Bill?)

Sid really is the guvnor – shot of Barney (leading Dutch dart player) looking miserable after he’d lost a final: ‘Normally he’s as ruddy as the skin on an Edam, but now he’s pale, pale as leerdammer.

Can’t remember who said it, but was on the Beeb’s showing of the University boat race and some duchess kissed the cox of the winning crew.

    Actually the best Warnerism was:

“…..here’s Danny Hart, he wants this more than an out of work rapist wants his next job!”

After various warnerisms, you do all have the iPhone app don’t you. My favourite is from Euro ’96 i can’t remember who said it but “And Seaman is trying to keep the sheets clean tonight” really amused me and all my 16 year old friends.
