[Closed] Help... Cant get cranks off my bike !

I've got a 2014 stumpy evo with a Sram s1250 crankset and a stupid pf30 bottom bracket that needs replacing.

I can't for the life of me get the ****in cranks off the bike.

Apparently it's a self extracting model but I just can't get the crank bolt moving and I'm worried it's going to strip.

This is what it looks like ...

Any ideas ?

10mm? hex key, with seatpost as an extender bar, give it some...

they're tight, so some "persuasion" might be needed

8mm innit for the inner bolt. Lean on it harder.

It's 8mm and I've been using an old set of bars and the bugger still isn't moving.

It won't strip. Give it some welly.

I usually find that the best way to do it is by pushing the key and cranks together from a fairly acute angle, maybe only 30 degrees apart. That way you don't run the risk of smashing your hands into something pointy when it lets go.

It's not the threads I'm worried about stripping it is the hole for the Allen key as the previous owner must if been a bit hamfisted as there is play in it already.

Try tightening it first. Then get your hammer out.

I have a long reach allen key on a 1/2 drive that I use as its much harder to strip with this - might be 10 mm actually for XTR 970

Works well

Its then just a question of enough leverage and not being scared ๐Ÿ˜‰

Every bolt needs either grease or loctite, IMHO.

Are you pushing the allen key down or pulling it up?

I had this on a s/h Spesh I bought recently.

I couldn't move it, even with additional 'levers' so took it to Mr Deas at I-Cycles. Took the pair of us, two lengths of piping, a steel hex key and the assistance of another customer to shift it.

Still had the original Spesh Loctite on and no marks to the bolt, so can't blame the previous owner.

I torque'd it back on to the recommended.

That's an Allen key in the same way that this is a Hoover -

They use these to attach them in the factory.

The bottom bracket is well and truly toast.

Time to explore conversion kits so I can run normal ht2 cranks.

Any recommendations.

Also where is best to get a frame bearing kit from ?
