    Kensington isn’t really near the river.
    The Elephant in Holland Street is OK, not near any rivers though.

    near Kensington. Bearing in mind london’s only about 2miles across we don’t mind a short walk…

    but to where?

    The Dove in Hammersmith is probably the nearest riverside pub, or those along either Hammersmith or Chiswick Mall. Kensington is over a mile away from the river.
    Or the Scarsdale Arms in Edwardes Square, but that’s also about a mile away from the river

    Not to my mind!

    For beer;
    White Horse, Parsons Green. Nice and sunny outside too, but can get very busy

    For a surprising sun trap
    The Marquis, Warwick Way. Good Timothy Taylor ale, nice place to watch the world go by.

    For totty spotting;
    Builders Arms (I forget the road, but due south of High St Ken)

    For the finest landlord around;
    The Nag’s Head, Kinnerton Street, behind Harvey Nichols. Marvellous!

    I’ll try and think of some more for you as well!

    Pook – if that was me and I was there for a few days, you could always pop on the district line and get down to Richmond – by the bridge is the spot to be, especially in weather like this.

    Well, it’s possibly the best beer pub in the land,

    Nope, that’ll be my local – the Nags Head here in Malvern 🙂

    Stoner – well you may think it is the best in the UK but does it have karaoke?

    Simon, one thing to recommend the Pony is that it has no TV, no music, no fruit machines. Lovely.

    Stoner, will look that up next time I’m in the Midlands.

    Simon, you bring the Mic and Im sure I can find an amp! 🙂

    last year they served over 1,000 different real ales.
    And there’s a no swearing rule.

    quote from the Landlord:

    I’m in the business of keeping people happy

    He also owns a nearby brewery (not my favourite but good beer all the same), as well as two other pubs in the area (The Chase in Colwall and the Swan in Newlands)

    Last weekend he held a big “Medieval beer festival” in the field at the Swan – marquees, jugglers, ye old lute players etc, and had I think 100 beers on draught! Top, top guy!

    and this is on a board near the door:

    “In the light of this increasingly litigious society, we wish to point out that this has been a public house since at least 1849 and may contain low ceilings, open fires and steps. Beware of everything.”
