I put the above wire bead tyre on a Hope hoop with the afore mentioned DT rim. Snapped a (Park hooky) lever and eventually needed a mate to help get the tyre on!
I'm now paranoid about getting a puncture and not getting the tyre back on post repair.
Suggestion? Or any knacks for stubborn tyres (must be doable in the woods). I'm thinking of plastic coated steel levers.
I think the rim is UST, does this explain the snugness?
The DT 4.1, 5.1 and 6.1 have always had a bit of a reputation as being a total pain for getting tyres on and off them. I don't know of any tricks other than using very strong tyre levers and a bit of umph to be honest.
My 5.1d's are silly snug with Fat Albert UST's. Switched to cheap pair of metal tyre levers and life is so much easier. 
I have some Magura branded DT and snug is an understatement 
I now carry a wooden basting brush with me as it the only thing I have found to be impervious to the rims....
I found the crank brothers speedlever about the best thing to use to get tyres on and off my 5.1
It looks a bit fragile, and there are loads of reports saying that they break easily, but I've not had a problem in over a year with mine. I think people who break them must apply a force further down the stem which looks a weak point rather than just behind the head.
Better levers needed.
I have 5.1s and use Topeak Shuttle levers. You want the ones with the big black one and the little yellow one.
Can be had for 7 quid or so from CRC.
Problem solved.
After geeky research, shuttle's look the best. I like the idea of the CB lever, but they look flimsy. I think I'd rather carry a basting brush, but then what would the basting be done with?
