Slightly tongue in cheek interpretation... but this quote does reveal something about how cyclists are perceived by the general public that this comment is even seen as relevant... 😯

He said: “I’m certain he made a very convincing female.

“He was slim with feminine features and as a cyclist he shaved his legs.”

That sounds like a reasonable assessment, but then I'm coming from the perspective that neither being gay nor being transvestite are "deviant" anyway...

They all debate from the norm but deviating from the norm should not be considered negatively.

Poor bloke died years ago - not sure why that is in the news, is there some sort of new inquest? It reads like a random opinion just rolled out there for no reason in particular.

All of us - no matter how "normal" - conform to somebody else's idea of a weirdo

Police have insisted the maths genius was alone in his Pimlico flat and suggested he locked himself in the bag for sexual kicks.

Still trying to convince everyone he locked himself in a sports bag then, I'm sure we would all come to the same conclusion upon finding a MI6 Spy dead in a bag. I'm surprised they didn't find inappropriate images of children on his computer as well, just to add another shot in the character assassination 🙄

Obviously got bored of the more logical causes.

It turns out I am not a cyclist, if I was I would shave my legs (apparently) ...

There are folk who regularly post on here and don't even ride bikes at all. I'm absolutely fine with transvestites, homosexuality and shaved legs for either sex but that kind of social weirdo I find creepy as ****!

We did a ride once and a new guy turned up. At the top of the first hill he announced he was worn out and going home.
So we were surprised 2 hours later to find him waiting in the pub car park for us.
He joined us at the bar and was certainly giving it large to the max about his radness .Most strange.

gay is a person who likes the same sex for a sexual relationship /encounter, a transvestite is a man or woman who likes dressing in the opposite sexes clothes.

a cyclist is usually a man who likes shaving his legs dressing in tight t shirts and lycra and riding a bike fast round a forest.

I know which of those I would say most qualifies as 'deviant'.

Why would a "Codebreaker", to quote the article, need to work undercover dressed as a women?

Obviously I'm not an expert on cryptanalysis of how MI6 works but I assume that its no easier to break a code in trousers than it is a frock.

I challenge anyone to come up with a shorter way of of saying he shaves his legs for cycling reasons than this: "as a cyclist he shaved his legs.”

Anything you try and add to clarify that not all cyclists shave their legs, the reasons why some do, the kind of cyclists those "some" are, it takes up words and detracts from the point of the story (not that I've read the story). It's fine as it is, and it's hardly worth a FactBox side bar, is it? "Cycling and leg shaving - the Who and the Why".

He shaves his legs because he's a cyclist. Nothing wrong, logically there. Doesn't imply anything about all cyclists.

was he a homosexual man who liked to dress as a woman.
or was he a heterosexual man who liked to dress as a woman.

its just that he visited gay bars and im not sure if he went as a woman trying to lure an unsuspecting homosexual woman or if he went as a woman hoping to snare an unsuspecting heterosexual man

its all very confusing.

did he actually dress as a woman so nobody would suspect that he was a cyclist?

I don't really see how being gay and/or a transvestite is deviant in this day and age.

He was a code breaker at GCHQ and then seconded to MI6. No reason to suspect he wasn't seconded into a field based/operational role.
