I really think that you've created a problem in your own mind - he (Finn) shows no signs of distress with the current situation, so there's no need to change it!

We had to do the same. We had no choice after he attacked out Son twice in two days after weeks of becoming more and more stressed (started when our son started walking). 
always wagging his tail (not docked) and not destructive when nobody in.
Unless there's something you're not telling us, you haven't got a problem - stop worrying.
Your anxiety about imagining giving him away is probably upsetting Finn more than his daytime sleeps.
…and where are the Finn photos? We need to see him, after all this.

We have a springer, daytime sleeps are normal for her. Even during the summer when everyone is around she likes to laze around.
No offence but the problem is in the OP's head.
Middle aged women with a history of bad diets and nothing in their lives like to tell you that you are wrong OP. If your dog is loved, well exercised at weekends and am/evenings. Then keep.
Trust me, I had this once. Two took one look at Bingo and said he was underfed as Westies should be 'fuller bodied'. Oh **** right off.
Don't get rid of Finn.You sound like you give him a great life,a lot better than a lot of dogs.Imagine how unhappy he'll be if hes taken away from his loving family.My two Springers spend the day curled up asleep whether i'm at work or at home.If you're giving him lots of attention and good walks when you get in from work he'll be fine.Dogs get used to routine and will be quite happy on their own for a while.
