If I were to use my debit card on one of the German websites are there any conversion fees or do you pay the price on the screen? I don’t have a credit card or PayPal account, just a simple Visa Electron card.

    Cheers

Your bank will convert it at their rate.

I thought with Visa that you can calculate it on the day, but your bank may apply a conversion fee depending on the account?

I think it depends on your bank account more than anything.

Incidentally, whats the crack if you do use paypal?

You can ask for either or – just choose your currency.

If you pay in sterling the Germans will profit on the forex. If you buy in Euro your bank will.

What you should do is stick the revolut app on your phone, and use that to pay in euros that way you’ll be better off.

By default, Paypal will convert it to £. But this is probably not a great rate, it does include a few % conversion fee.

Paypal does have an option to pay in the seller’s currency, though this is not very obvious on the checkout. Then that would depend on what your bank charges you for foreign currency payments.
