Hi, Anyone used one of these with a VW van (transporter / camper) with barn rear doors – does the rack ’tilt’ far enough back to allow doors to be opened with bikes loaded?
How is the rack when travelling and does it seem strong & secure?

    Cheers

I have used it with a Skoda Octavia Estate. The rack moves back a long way, I would think it would be far enough to clear even the largest door.

It is very stable on the car, far better than earlier Thule units I have had. Also very easy to fit and remove.

Overall I am very pleased with mine!

Done two trips to the Alps with one, so strong enough and secure enough. Very easy to load the rack onto the ball and the bikes onto the rack.

Like Grim says it slides back rather than tilts, so it goes back along way – but whether that’s far enough for van doors I don’t know (probably I suspect).

If you’re in Yorkshire you’re welcome to try it for size, or I think the Roof Box Company do a rental service – they might rent you one. Failing that they’re decent enough to talk to and ask their advice.
