  • Are all flip flops created equal?

I’ve only ever had one pair. Bought at Walgreens for about $5. Perfect for bike touring at the end of the day, light and easily packed.

I only had one issue with them. Whilst trying to push a tent peg it popped clear through the sole, almost taking some skin with it.

So, I’m after another pair, a brief google shows many options with hefty prices, are they all created equal?

No! They are not. I have a pair of quicksilver ones that I had for 4 years, love them to bits, but bought other and they do not compare.

What flip flops for collecting wood from a boutique storage area?

Got a couple of pairs of “Simple” ones left if interested?

Likewise Reef. I’ve had a pair that have lasted years. Wear them in seawater with no problems. You can even get Reef ones with a bottle opener on the sole. Great for those beach parties you’ll never go to but like to think you will. 🙂

I’ve had many over the years and the plain black Reef ones I had were the toughest and most comfortable.

If you want something that’ll withstand a tentpeg 😯 I’d suggest some of those ones they wear in africa, made from truck tyres

Reef. Best flip flops on earth, and a rather lovely calendar on their website to boot…

    Ahem.

All I know is you pay for the brand name.

hmmm…. I go through about 1 pair a year, through wearing the soles out, or snappage of the toe-joiny-bit. Plus after wearing them all summer my arches are sore.

I’m tempted to find some more permanent ones, perhaps with more arch support, but wouldn’t know where to look.

Ps I also have 17 other various pairs in different colours or with sparkly bits. 5 pairs are identical, I got them for £2 each from accessorize so they are easy to mix and match as they are all black. My husband says I’m a freak and a pain in the arse buying so many but I like them.

Last year I was advised by my doctor to start wearing them to assist with getting rid of my athletes foot. I brought a £5 from tesco which broke after a week. Then was given some Havianians which are very comfy and fit well, I’ve put them through the washing machine a few times too, I now have 3 pairs… And no athletes foot, they must be magic.

The best and coolest flip flops share an inverse relationship with cost.

I’ve always invested in quality & have pairs from Gravis & reef etc but when in Thailand recently I bought a pair of £1 no brands & they’ve been amazing.

I’ve worn them several times a week over the past 6 months, often for the whole day & night and they’re still solid and easily the most comfortable flip flop I’ve ever worn.

Did someone just use the word ‘invested’ when talking about flip-flops? 😆

Thanks for the advice folks, i popped into TKMax this morning and found a pair of Merrell flip flops for a tenner reduced from £65. The sole looks more than stiff enough for a post tour spin to he shops for scran, and I doubt a tent peg could penetrate it, perhaps not on the designers spec sheet, but for a tenner I won’t die!

I have 1 pair that have a suede-ette foot surface and they are much better than crappy plastic ones, for a start they don’t make the nasty sucking sound when your feet are warm! They also have a leather between toe section which works wonders over a plastic option. Mostly for wear indoors though – I also have offensive feet!
