    Somebody please explain to me the advantage of controlling an RC heli using an iPhone rather than with a dedicated controller designed for the purpose?

    Because lots of people have iphones or touches. (Plus it sends the images to the iphones screen. If you have a RC transmitter, this may be better (it will be cheaper):
