hey everyone this is Andy from
0:01
singletrack magazine and I'm here with
0:03
Matthew bright motion right
0:05
a French suspension manufacturer who is
0:09
making this rather cool-looking linkage
0:11
fork now I know a lot of you wondering
0:14
like why would I want a linkage fork
0:16
when I telescopic fork is so good
0:18
so why the answer is very easy
0:21
it's about anti diving the telescopic
0:24
one when you brake you drive you change
0:27
the whole geometry of your bike you are
0:29
not stable and you lose something like
0:32
80% of your capability absorbing shocks
0:36
it's it's not normal it's a problem yeah
0:39
we did that to answer this problem this
0:42
is the the only fork able to be 100%
0:47
anti diving so if you go into a steep
0:50
section of trail and you pull you for a
0:52
break you're not gonna move down exactly
0:54
you're not gonna sit still and all your
0:56
travel available in all situations so I
0:59
mean how did you come to the design how
1:01
did you decide to make the focal look
1:03
like this you know we saw a lot of
1:06
linkage fork in the past but it was from
1:09
engineering thinking yeah okay and we
1:12
know they have some problem with that we
1:15
didn't choose the position of the axis
1:17
it's the only solution mathematic
1:20
solution to get on t dive fork so you
1:24
didn't think oh it has to look like they
1:26
are not a solid different you yeah
1:28
you've taken a bright blank sheet of
1:30
paper designed from the ground up and
1:31
you've gone basically this is the way it
1:35
looks because that's the only way it can
1:37
work
1:37
exactly if you see another shape or fork
1:41
that meaning it's not 100% a diamond yes
1:44
there are a few other different kind of
1:46
linkage folks I mean I'm sure some of
1:48
the viewers will remember for example
1:50
the curve in form that was on a pro flex
1:52
and that looked different to this yeah
1:54
that wasn't an anti die fork at all was
1:56
it yes exactly and then and that
1:58
actually had a different wheel path yes
2:00
the wheel path on this is no because
2:02
there is two things we we wanted to to
2:06
keep it's the stunner
2:09
way to mounted it the stirrer here yeah
2:11
okay and
2:13
the same axle path as a normal form the
2:17
the goal is to to make people able to to
2:22
have the same Ripper than with the
2:25
telescopic one yeah okay so it doesn't
2:27
change nothing about geometry or feeling
2:32
you can have a little bike at the
2:34
beginning it just wanted I'm right so I
2:37
mean this fork is first of all remove
2:39
anti dive yeah I mean if you wanted to
2:42
you could have changed the axle path you
2:44
could have changed the the offset but
2:46
you wanted to keep it as similar to a
2:48
standard fork as possible because like
2:51
if you change too much people won't know
2:52
why the better to ride on that so on
2:55
yeah it's pretty cool so I mean with
2:58
this there's a I mean because it's anti
2:59
dive and it is a linkage fork it's kind
3:02
of cool because you're not really losing
3:04
any wheel base are you as the the fork
3:06
travels through it
3:07
it's your full travel you're not really
3:10
shortening the wheel base of the world
3:12
okay at the beginning I mean for the
3:14
first fifty percent yeah of the travel
3:18
is exactly the same as a telescopic one
3:21
yet after as we can do what we want yeah
3:24
we choose to to have a vertical travel
3:27
yeah okay and that's good for the bass
3:30
well to keep the same and to keep the
3:33
your bike stable for big shorts like
3:36
jump or stuff like that you don't feel a
3:40
little squirmy when you touch the ground
3:43
you know you're very stable and you can
3:45
actually notice it a little bit on the
3:47
bike you mean on a bike with a regular
3:49
telescopic fork you push down and the
3:51
wheel sort of sucks up underneath you
3:52
yeah whereas this is just lifting up in
3:55
front of you it's it's very it looks
3:57
very interesting at the beginning it's
3:58
the same at the telescopic one and at
4:01
the half of the travel up it come
4:04
vertically yeah so you have the anti die
4:07
feature and then on top of that you when
4:09
you're hitting terrain and you're going
4:10
faster and faster and faster
4:12
you're not losing that stability
4:13
stability because you're not shortening
4:15
the wheelbase either are you yeah and I
4:17
mean and and although again it looks a
4:19
very very radical it's not changing the
4:21
geometry of the bikie there is it it's
4:23
not affecting anything like that all
4:24
those yeah
4:26
the same upset yep everything still the
4:30
same yeah and this version is a 160
4:33
millimeter travel and it has the same
4:34
crown to axle as a fox 36 so exactly you
4:38
could put it on your bike and no anti
4:40
dive no wheelbase changing yeah and no
4:42
maintenance no maintenance at all
4:45
there is no ball bearings no no ball
4:47
bearings in here ball bearings right
4:48
it's composite bearings more bushing
4:52
bushing here it's special one it's not
4:54
like we were used to see on the bike
4:58
yeah it's a more complicated for us for
5:02
the production okay it's very precise
5:05
stuff but when we do it yeah after you
5:09
don't have to do nothing no maintenance
5:11
no oil no grace no play no screw nothing
5:16
to do wow it's quite exciting isn't it
5:18
to think that just have fun yeah just
5:20
just did ride your bike and never clean
5:23
it it is possible if you want yeah yeah
5:26
if you want to clean it you can clean it
5:28
with a high-pressure water no problem I
5:31
know the Wow like you can high-pressure
5:33
hose this clean and it won't affect it
5:36
at all no no no that's all so we've got
5:38
composite bushings in here that don't
5:40
wear they don't need lubrication they
5:42
don't produce play and you can't take it
5:46
apart either can you you can't remove
5:47
these pieces if you are actively the
5:50
frame is is hydraulic press yeah for the
5:55
product during the production yeah okay
5:57
and after you can't do any nothing on
6:00
the frame it's just a lifetime it's all
6:04
I mean if if there was an issue you can
6:07
still do it yeah it's not something you
6:09
would do at home but nothing to do bring
6:11
it and if you I mean you might be able
6:13
to see a here on the on the video we've
6:15
got these end caps
6:17
yeah and although they look like that
6:18
actually removes the pivot that's not
6:20
the case it's just cosmetic isn't it you
6:22
can remove it with your special tools
6:24
just to for the design for the change to
6:27
call or if you want yeah
6:29
at the moment we have folklore but it's
6:31
just for a design yeah so mean like that
6:34
I mean originally the idea was just anti
6:36
dive but already we're hearing no
6:38
maintenance no changes in geometry as
6:40
well yeah it's quite a lot of advantages
6:42
here yeah and there is a lot of other
6:44
advantage at one yeah I mean if we look
6:46
at this actual suspension medium we have
6:48
this carbon beam here which is a wave
6:53
yeah the way this is a carbon wave now
6:56
am I right in saying that so this is the
6:58
spring exactly and this spring will suit
7:01
any what rider-waite exactly so how does
7:05
that work I mean like if I'm a lot
7:06
heavier than Hana but we wrote the same
7:08
spring and it works fine for both of us
7:10
okay you can see that the the spring is
7:14
it's curved okay so we're not gonna
7:17
curve it again no no okay we're gonna
7:20
pull on it okay if you make it function
7:24
you you're gonna pull on the blade and
7:27
the result is that the curve is
7:30
progressive one okay so if you tight it
7:34
with the little exactly you change the
7:39
stiffness you can fill so it's okay for
7:43
every every pilot yes you don't wait to
7:46
worry about there's no air or anything
7:48
in here that will get to this in a
7:50
moment but that's not an air shock and
7:51
some people believe there's no air
7:53
there's no nitrogen
7:54
there's no coil springs to change now
7:56
just this one spring and the only
7:58
adjustment that you need is preload and
8:01
it it does sound fantastic but it
8:03
actually does work we've really like a
8:05
good test over the past day and it
8:07
hasn't really really worked and and
8:10
another thing you mentioned as well
8:11
generally when we've posted about this
8:13
fork in the past everyone's thought of
8:15
this being under compression and it's
8:17
it's being squashed and kind of worried
8:20
how much stress these carbon fiber
8:23
threads can take but that's not the case
8:26
that that's the natural shape of the
8:28
spring and what in effect is happening
8:30
is it's being straightened out back to
8:33
its natural shape exist no there's no
8:35
pressure now is there's no stress the
8:37
more the the bigger shocks are
8:41
the better is the so this is this is
8:44
actually relaxing it yeah the threads
8:47
are relaxing under under load which is
8:48
pretty impressive and if we like say if
8:51
we look at the other side this is not an
8:53
air shock it's just a damper isn't it
8:55
exactly one person jumper okay no air
8:57
there is no internal piston inside there
9:03
is two problem on the normal jumper the
9:06
friction okay in overheating the
9:09
friction
9:10
it's about air pressure inside okay so
9:13
we don't have air pressure inside and
9:15
about eye pressure hydraulic seal we
9:20
don't have see yeah okay it seems I I
9:23
like the way you design things it's like
9:25
okay the problem is this so let's not
9:27
put it in we we must take it away we
9:30
don't need to fix it we just remove it
9:31
and to remove high pressure so yeah we
9:34
we have to be sure that there is no high
9:35
pressure so we have atmospheric pressure
9:38
technology there make sure there is no
9:41
high pressure on time lick is not
9:43
possible
9:44
with our technology so you don't need to
9:46
worry about leaking impossible right we
9:48
don't any we don't have seal right so no
9:52
leak right okay so one thing you may
9:56
notice with a telescopic fork is when
9:58
you first get onto the fork you have to
10:00
kind of break the seal yeah to get it
10:03
working and that stiction can affect the
10:06
small bump yeah performance of a fork
10:08
and that's because of high pressure
10:10
seals it needs to keep the air in it
10:11
needs to keep that oil and everything in
10:12
but because this is a low pressure
10:14
system the seals don't really need to do
10:16
so much so no sin no friction no
10:19
stiction amazing it so this is very good
10:22
for the senseability grip air con 4 it's
10:25
really really good and the other point
10:28
is about overheating yeah okay it's a
10:31
problem because it's change the
10:34
viscosity is cause it's all coiled and
10:36
so the behavior and it's not good for
10:39
lifetime of the of the ide rollick
10:41
jumper so we we have a cooling system
10:44
inside okay half of the oil is used to
10:48
cool the system so it's not possible to
10:51
over eating so
10:52
the same behavior all the time yeah okay
10:55
and no maintenance is all wrong
10:57
it's again no maintenance so we've got
11:00
yes quite especially for us where it's
11:02
usually muddy and rainy it like to have
11:04
something that has no maintenance no
11:06
seals to worry about you can pressure
11:08
wash it yeah it sounds like the dream
11:11
basically yeah it's done for that yeah
11:13
for the dream and just pleasure too
11:16
right
11:16
so on top of the you know the the pull
11:18
action the low pressure system and
11:20
obviously the the oil circulating to
11:23
cool down and we've also got an
11:25
adjustment on here as you but not really
11:27
as you'd find on a regular fork again
11:28
it's it's different again it's yeah it's
11:30
a bit different we we wanted once again
11:32
doing something very simple yeah okay so
11:36
you have in the the first part you
11:39
adjust the ribbons like normal one okay
11:42
but we have a second mod okay the firm
11:45
mod if you want to get a fork very very
11:49
firm very stable for a jump bite back
11:54
stuff like that you just have to turn a
11:56
bit more and you lo you choose sorry low
11:59
medium high and your hands change is the
12:03
firm exactly totally the change the the
12:07
behavior it's to fork in one excellent
12:10
so if we just take a look at the damper
12:12
here with this green line here and
12:14
that's the center setting for of the
12:16
book and if I turn it anti-clockwise
12:18
yeah that affects the rebound only so
12:21
only a rebound so the further
12:24
anti-clockwise you go the faster the
12:26
rebound is yeah and personally for me I
12:28
just had it one click and it was amazing
12:30
for anything doesn't matter if you're
12:32
hitting small bumps big bumps jumps
12:34
rocks roots just one click of rebound
12:37
was the only adjustment I had to do and
12:39
what I we didn't get chance to ride
12:41
because we didn't have any smooth trails
12:43
to test it on is the height is the firm
12:46
mode from and that's if you go to the
12:49
opposite side of the Green Line so if
12:51
you go clockwise past the Green Line and
12:54
that actually firms up the suspension
12:56
and that's great for bike parks but jump
12:58
exactly contracts yeah right stuff like
13:01
that people who want to get very very
13:06
from uni deport yeah you need the
13:08
support of support yeah yeah excellent
13:10
all right okay so before we go with this
13:13
different tire sizes we all sizes sorry
13:15
yeah and different travel options yes so
13:17
this is the 27.5 and it's okay for tires
13:21
up to 2.5 inches exactly and what travel
13:23
options can we have it from 150 to 170
13:27
so it's it's a big full yes you're okay
13:30
all right excellent
13:32
and if you have a 29 inch wheels or plus
13:34
tires directly you have exactly until
13:37
three pound three for the tire yeah with
13:42
a three how do you say three inches
13:44
inches yeah yeah exactly
13:47
in the travel is from 140 to 160
13:51
excellent so if you're on a twenty nine
13:53
or a plus-sized by exiling yeah you can
13:55
also go for one of these two and in the
13:57
future I believe you're gonna do a cross
13:58
country fork and a downhill for yeah
14:00
exactly
14:01
excellent so but no information about
14:03
that at the moment yet yeah all right
14:06
and in last few details if people don't
14:09
like black and green is there any other
14:10
option yeah four or four : we have a
14:13
green blue orange dark orange like a
14:17
this yeah exactly and the black black
14:20
and titanium yeah you can see the the
14:23
color on the site website okay and so
14:27
yeah that's it that's the motion e18
14:29
motion rifle of the eighteen anti die
14:31
for lots of benefits there and I'm gonna
14:35
be doing a full write-up about this and
14:37
also have a you know do a bit of a
14:39
write-up about my first ride impressions
14:41
to which really good really really good
14:44
but check out single track world for
14:47
more information and the full write-up
14:49
and their you remember to subscribe to
14:52
this if you like this video where we'll
14:54
see you again soon
14:55
thanks very much Matthew thank you
