hi I'm Hannah from single track and I'm
0:21
here with Jack from Canyon hi let's talk
0:24
about this new bike in front of us the
0:26
strive which is launched today uh and
0:29
it's it's your Endura bike yeah that's
0:31
it so um for those not familiar with the
0:34
canyon range of mountain bikes um the
0:37
stri has been around for a while in a
0:38
number of versions um and it's our like
0:41
you said our uro bike um so it's
0:43
positioned uh between our spectral the
0:45
trail bike in our range and the and the
0:47
torque which is our kind of super Enduro
0:49
Bike Park bike um and this is our our
0:52
latest version of the yeah of that kind
0:54
of inur inero model this drive so big
0:57
big news big change is the wheels yeah
1:00
yeah exactly so yeah the thing you'll
1:01
notice if you are familiar with the the
1:03
old bike um is that we moved 29in Wheels
1:06
um so that's across all sizes um and uh
1:11
yeah there's been kind of I think a bit
1:12
of a shift um in in racing and
1:15
everything and I think we've engineered
1:17
this bike to to win races uh so where
1:20
it's at is where we've gone to nailing
1:22
your colors to the mask excellent so no
1:25
275s at all um what travel are we going
1:29
to get
1:30
so the bike we have in front of us here
1:32
is is a bit of an exception it has a 170
1:34
mil Fork but everything else is a 160
1:37
mil fork and then on the back is 150 mil
1:39
of travel across the board okay so the
1:41
rear travel is the same across all the
1:43
bikes in the range exactly but this one
1:45
is the the team racing ews guys kind of
1:49
bike and so it's got a bit more bit more
1:51
travel slightly longer Fork just cuz the
1:53
I guess the the ews rounds the these
1:56
days so yeah they're so demanding that
1:58
they kind of an extra 10 m brings the
2:00
head angle back half a degree and raises
2:02
the BB slightly so they can negotiate
2:05
nasty Rock Gardens and and everything in
2:07
between okay so if you fancy yourself as
2:09
an ews Rider what are you getting by way
2:11
of geometry on that um so you have to
2:15
take half a degree off uh these angles
2:17
but it's a 66 for this bike but 66 head
2:20
angle on most of the range um and then
2:23
uh you've got quite a bit longer reach
2:26
on a few of the sizes um for this new
2:28
version so on the large a 470 mil reach
2:31
um and on the XL is a whopping 500 mil
2:34
reach and then you've got 440 reach on
2:36
medium and 45 reach on the uh small so
2:40
okay so the scale this one's a medium
2:42
yeah this is a medium here okay and what
2:44
about the seat tube is that same angles
2:46
as well uh the seat tube um in the XE
2:49
mode is uh is 75 um and 73 and A2 when
2:54
you're in the downhill mode which is all
2:56
determined by where you have the shape
2:58
shifter shape shifter so let's let's
3:00
talk about the shape shifter then
3:02
there's there's there's things going on
3:04
here there's buttons up here there's
3:06
some little extra gbin down here exactly
3:08
what's it what's it for first of all so
3:10
it's quite well hidden um but what it is
3:12
is a is a small gas spring um which when
3:16
it's extended the bike sits up into that
3:19
uh 75° seat angle and adds a degree and
3:22
a half onto the head tube angle as well
3:25
um and then when it's compressed you get
3:27
that kind of downhill mode 66 head angle
3:31
um that angle change is sort of half the
3:34
story um the other big change is to the
3:37
feel of the rear suspension um when it
3:40
compresses it actually moves the top
3:43
eyelet of the shock uh slightly further
3:45
towards the seat Tu which increases the
3:47
the leverage ratio okay um so in the
3:50
downhill mode not only have you got a
3:51
slacker lower bike you've also got a
3:53
bike with the full 150 M of travel um
3:56
more Supple shock um whereas in the
3:58
cross country mode conversely is a Firma
4:02
feeding shock right the travel is
4:04
actually down to 135 mil because the
4:07
leverage ratio has changed um and also a
4:10
more subtle thing but you do really
4:12
notice actually when you're you know
4:13
pounding up a steep climb is there's
4:15
actually because the rear axle is
4:18
slightly further round the wheel path
4:19
there's slightly more antis squat in the
4:21
X mode so all together your X mode is
4:23
for for your pedaling then ex and and
4:26
then you can switch the downhill mode
4:28
for for going downhill almost two bikes
4:30
in one but and you could actually use it
4:32
almost like two bikes in one because you
4:34
if you're just doing like a trail Center
4:36
ride with your kids or whatever you
4:37
could just keep it in XT mode the whole
4:38
way around yeah if you if you're someone
4:40
that splits your time between super
4:42
steep techy trails and you have some
4:43
sort of more of flowy Trails the XC mode
4:47
what we call it XC mode is actually
4:48
usable for more mellow Trails um so you
4:51
get a bit more pedaling efficiency
4:53
slightly tighter angles um so so yeah
4:57
it's a it's something that we uh
4:59
developed with the old bike um but on
5:01
this one it's it's been evolved a little
5:04
bit further um so it's kind of refined
5:06
the action for how you get from one
5:09
state into another isn't it I think so
5:11
if you're an ews Rider and you want to
5:13
be able to change uh settings just as
5:16
easily as you might use a dropper that's
5:18
kind of what you've got now with this
5:20
yeah yeah so it's it's on the fly a
5:22
geometry adjustment this rear shop
5:23
feeling adjustment is something you can
5:24
do on the Fly um I press these buttons
5:27
yeah so what setting am I in now so now
5:31
you're be in the XC mode um the next
5:34
time there's weight taken off the back
5:35
of the bike The Shape Shifter will
5:37
extend by itself and stay there in XC
5:39
mode okay and then and then oh I'm at
5:41
the top of the hill soon as you release
5:43
it so the next time the rear suspension
5:45
compresses it will then go into downhill
5:47
mode and and it will stay there okay um
5:49
so it's uh the last one was similar in
5:53
kind of the way it changed the bike but
5:55
the operation was a little bit of a
5:56
technique to it a bit of a learning
5:57
process sort of compress and push and
5:59
things
6:00
it there's no timing you just push push
6:03
and go and you can see it when you're
6:04
riding if you accidentally left it Inc
6:07
mode you can just see on the handle bar
6:09
so uh it's nice and easy and it's still
6:12
still quite tidy there with the dropper
6:13
and everything there yeah so the the
6:15
leave is really nice in that it's it
6:17
accepts the thumb paddle Reverb remote
6:19
and also accepts a cable pull Canyon
6:22
remote so if you have a bike spec with a
6:24
cable operated post um it will be in
6:26
exactly the same layout as that okay um
6:29
and it's yeah I think thumb paddle is is
6:31
a bit easier to use than having levers
6:33
above the bar um which even turning your
6:35
bike UPS or down May you're not meant to
6:36
do it but yeah it's going to happen
6:39
sometime so and then this shape shifter
6:42
is across all the bikes in the range
6:44
yeah y yeah and um in terms of the
6:47
engineering of the unit itself um this
6:49
time around we've developed it with the
6:51
guys at ful suspension um so there's
6:53
been a few changes um as I say the angle
6:56
adjustment is very similar to the old
6:58
bikes about a degree and half is the
7:00
change you achieve but even down to the
7:03
location of the valve to set it up for
7:04
your weight um it sits off to the side
7:07
so the last one you had to use an
7:09
adapter um cuz it was quite uh kind of
7:12
hidden inside the the middle of the
7:14
rocker link um and also this runs at a
7:16
lower pressure so you're not really
7:18
having to to wind up to super high
7:20
pressure um it's yeah bit easier to kind
7:23
of set up and as we run over the
7:25
operation of it is a bit more intuitive
7:27
right so um
7:30
that's your your geometry and your
7:31
geometry changes they stay the same
7:33
across all the range apart from this
7:35
race one exactly the other small change
7:40
the laugh set Forks so we moved to
7:41
laughs at Forks on this bike um
7:44
depending on whether you have a fox
7:45
equipped bike or Rock shock equi bike
7:47
you get either 44 mil offset for Fox or
7:50
42 mil offset for rock shocks so that's
7:52
the only other kind of discrepancy
7:54
between saying it's a blanket this is
7:56
the geometry and and spec between the
7:58
bikes and so there are different price
8:01
points in the range um and there's two
8:03
different carbon layups for different
8:06
parts of that range is that correct
8:07
exactly yes so the two top models so
8:09
this one and the one above it and The
8:11
Bling one the Super Bling yeah okay
8:13
exactly so we we we tout them as the CFR
8:15
bikes uh so they're a slightly higher
8:18
modulus carbon um same stiffness as the
8:22
as the the standard bikes below them the
8:24
standard strive CF but it's 300 gr
8:26
lighter so it's quite a big weight
8:27
saving um so it's you know almost a full
8:30
water bottle yes which uh if you're out
8:33
all day is uh is yeah I think noticeable
8:36
over time and you can get you get a
8:37
water bottle on all all the bites as
8:39
well don't you water bottle on there and
8:40
also uh threaded BB as well threaded BB
8:44
excent now yeah there's a couple of
8:45
changes down here weren't there that um
8:47
were kind of of note so you've got
8:49
you've got your threaded BB you've got a
8:51
bolt-on uh protection on the sound tube
8:54
yeah and then something going on with
8:55
the is yeah so um some people May
8:59
sympathize with this but icg tabs um on
9:03
bikes can be a bit vulnerable so if you
9:05
really Whack The Bash guard um and your
9:07
icg tabs a part of your frame then you
9:10
can hurt the frame right um on this bike
9:13
the same as our torque actually um it's
9:15
a removable icg plate so if you really
9:18
hit something hard and you write off
9:20
your chain guide and you write off your
9:21
icg tabs rather than needing a new front
9:24
end of your bicycle um you can just
9:26
change this the plate which clamps onto
9:28
the BB shell and uh and you're back up
9:30
and running again that definitely sounds
9:32
like a good thing yes you would be sad
9:34
to to write off your a shame for such a
9:37
good looking bike so uh how many sizes
9:41
are there going to be available it's
9:42
from small through to XL so four sizes
9:45
um six models right and all the models
9:47
available in all the sizes precisely
9:49
yeah and so what does it start at so
9:52
2699 um and it's only available in
9:55
carbon strive as mentioned it's got
9:57
those two levels of carbon frame um um
10:00
but at 2699 it's still a really great
10:02
spec so you've got a proper Fox 36
10:05
Rhythm Fork um dpx2 performance shock um
10:09
and then at the other end of the the
10:12
Spectrum uh the very very top uh cf9
10:15
limited model has got a real dream build
10:18
uh kind of components so Envy Wheels uh
10:21
xx1 group set and also the fox fact cool
10:25
shocks so yeah really broad range of
10:27
bikes very good well
10:30
thanks very much for joining us you and
10:32
the viewers if you've got any questions
10:34
stick them in the comments below and
10:36
Jack or I will do our best to to answer
10:38
them um or hop on over to the canyon
10:41
website where be able to see the range
10:43
and and order one if that's what you
10:44
think you need yeah availability wise um
10:47
there'll be select models in stock um
10:49
from today and then uh the rest of the
10:51
range will be following shortly after
10:54
very good yeah thanks very much see you
10:56
soon bye bye
