0:00
alright hello everyone this will hear
0:01
from singletrack magazine a singletrack
0:03
welcome we're here at the 2018 pivot
0:05
2412 and we're right in the middle of
0:08
camp site as you can probably tell and
0:09
we're actually about to go do a preview
0:12
of the racecourse I'm here with my
0:15
speedy friend Tom hello looking very
0:18
fast and I've got to try and keep up
0:20
with Tom he's gonna help you do some
0:21
filming we're gonna give you a bit of a
0:22
look at this ten kilometer loop that
0:24
everyone's gonna be racing over this
0:25
weekend at this 12 and 24 hour Melton
0:28
bike race so strap yourself in get ready
0:31
for some very fast and furious racing
0:33
action right so we're out on course
0:50
where we've gone through the campsite
0:53
and the starting area of the pivot 2412
0:58
race lap and now into some double track
1:03
this is a good opportunity for racers to
1:07
throw some passing maneuvers such as
1:09
this yep say you do it how you do it
1:15
although it's next to a shooting ground
1:17
right yeah don't go off course hey I
1:20
wouldn't recommend you wouldn't
1:22
recommend it yeah of course itself has
1:24
been rejigged from last year it's a bit
1:28
shorter but there is more single track
1:31
in it I think on average I'll be the
1:35
quicker lap times gonna be around or sub
1:38
30 minutes
1:41
32:35 yep right so we're back in a
1:44
single track into the woods the trail
1:48
surface here is really nice and dusty so
1:52
of course been a very dry summer and
1:55
trail conditions well nicely done trail
2:00
conditions right now couldn't be better
2:03
we have had a little bit of drizzle
2:05
today and that's kind of pack down a bit
2:09
of the dust what's going to be
2:10
challenging is we are expecting more
2:13
rain to come through over the weekend so
2:16
the current conditions are likely to
2:18
stay the same definitely on the race
2:21
course right now it's not too bad but
2:22
there are spots where then a more
2:24
exposed and they're catching the rain
2:27
first and turning the trail a little bit
2:31
slick in spots and that's going to be
2:33
the tricky part is kind of going from
2:35
here Oh dirt the slippy slick trail
2:42
gentlemen all right you're on you say
2:48
bunghole bunghole sweet man the other
2:57
left
2:58
Ozzy left mate it's all upside down oh
3:02
yeah oh this is super creepy oh oh yeah
3:09
if you're riding through that at night
3:11
with weird old derelict caravans kind of
3:15
shining back at you this is the major
3:19
climb coming up so I think that says the
3:23
Mac attack climb Oh
3:26
oh my lord this is steep it feels sleep
3:31
anyway oh yeah so we're going up the Mac
3:34
attack climb this is early on in the lap
3:36
2 and this is your way of gaining
3:40
elevation to those trails that we want
3:43
to get to on the backside well holy moly
3:47
oh it makes you work for time pulling
3:51
away from the
3:52
too powerful on the climbs I think I've
3:56
hit threshold BPM dude I need max again
4:03
now after riders have gone up that burg
4:08
here will be the motivation station
4:11
ladies serving tea and scones yeah
4:15
they'll be tunes they'll be helping
4:17
riders not only get up that climb but to
4:21
keep going
4:22
I bet on Sunday morning towards the end
4:27
of the 24-hour race people are going to
4:30
need that oh you've got a little bit of
4:33
rain drizzling on us which is actually
4:35
quite nice because it's warm because of
4:37
those clouds overhead and that
4:39
precipitation is quite a bit of humidity
4:42
under the trees here
4:44
riders are gonna have to make sure they
4:46
take onboard plenty of water because
4:49
right now I am sweating a bucket load up
4:53
again here we go just after you've had
4:57
that nice little recovery there yeah so
5:00
we're up on the top now the lion's share
5:03
of the climbing is being done that's out
5:05
of the way and now we've got some really
5:09
fun single track that awaits us you'll
5:13
see all these bright orange tree stumps
5:15
which the race organisers have
5:19
painted as such so hopefully even at
5:22
night you'll be able to spot those you
5:25
avoid your front wheel going straight
5:28
into one because that could spill
5:30
disaster
5:31
all right so entering a kind of first
5:35
section of single track downhill this is
5:38
the reward for all the climbing that
5:41
we've been doing now this trail is
5:43
running beautifully at the moment it's
5:45
just being tacked down with a little bit
5:48
of drizzle one thing to watch though is
5:50
the roots are quite shiny and once well
5:54
they're shiny when they're dry once they
5:56
get just a little bit of moisture on
5:58
them they could be absolutely deadly all
6:02
right we've got a bit more a bit more
6:04
descending coming up here through the
6:06
trees oh yeah through those off camber
6:15
corners to keep you on your toes all
6:17
right a bit more climbing to bring us
6:19
back up we're getting towards the back
6:21
of the course now got a lovely section
6:24
of single track through here been
6:29
traversing along and now we're going to
6:30
head steadily back downhill
6:35
oh here we are coming into bluebells
6:40
wood which is probably one of if not the
6:44
most fun sections of a singletrack in
6:47
the whole course and this just kind of
6:51
undulates in and around these bomb holes
6:54
we've got a few interesting tree roots
6:57
here certainly a few lumps and bumps
7:00
through there I don't know how you're
7:01
going on the hardtail Oh yep there's the
7:04
a line yeah all those through the over
7:07
take almost that was the jerome Clements
7:12
line right there yeah I think some
7:15
interesting passes are going to happen
7:16
there on race day that's for sure you'd
7:21
use this in it this there's nothing to
7:23
full-on and that kind of makes it it
7:27
makes it appealing for a wider range of
7:28
riders you know you don't have to be an
7:31
absolute Pinner yeah I mean there's no
7:33
committing drops or or jumps or anything
7:37
like that oh yeah this is this is a
7:41
really fun section so we are coming in
7:46
towards home straight and we are coming
7:48
into a section of trail called the bomb
7:50
holes for obvious reasons and this is
7:54
why one big pump track Wow you can
7:59
barely touch the pedals there and still
8:02
pick up speed here we've got some rocks
8:05
just like those tree stumps earlier on
8:07
painted bright flora orange so some of
8:12
those rocks are potentially going to eat
8:16
tires and tubes so they've been
8:18
color-coded accordingly so riders can
8:20
avoid them but we are nearing the end of
8:23
the racecourse now and we're going to
8:25
descend back down into race village on
8:30
some absolutely ripping trail
8:36
or you can hit it oh yeah this one yep
8:40
oh yeah there we go that's about it and
8:45
I mean you can even you can go straight
8:47
around that there's no problem at all
8:52
ace picking up speed as we head downhill
8:58
again there's some opportunity to go
9:03
really fast through here
9:05
if you feeling confident smooth and
9:09
mentally on point we've got another
9:12
couple of foam holes coming up here here
9:16
we go up and over up and over brilliant
9:21
alright heading into cottage returned
9:23
now oh this is a classic bit of trail
9:31
here we go some nice rocks through there
9:35
Tom's doing a fantastic job of picking
9:38
his way around those sharp pointy rocks
9:40
and I'm able to be quite a bit more lazy
9:42
on the full suspension give it trail
9:45
four to nine we've got a big off-camber
9:49
turn there that's quite loose it's not
9:52
too bad at the moment but I reckon
9:55
that's going to get a bit slick you
9:56
don't want to come into there too hot
9:58
otherwise your tyres are going to drop
10:01
out from underneath you
10:02
now the far section here through the
10:05
ferns we're gonna start a zig zag out
10:07
way back downhill from here you can
10:09
start to hear the microphone and the
10:13
loud speaker down in the finish line
10:14
area so for racers who are feeling
10:19
fatigued and tired hearing that sound
10:23
gonna help them knowing that they at the
10:27
finish and you've got a sweet bit of
10:30
singletrack
10:30
to take you there this is superb oh yeah
10:38
how good is this oh ha ha ha ha watch
10:43
those roots
10:48
holy moly working it right down now oh
10:57
yes it's already starting to erode and
11:00
we haven't had many riders out
11:03
practicing yet I mean tomorrow midday
11:05
once the race starts give me and all
11:08
those braking bumps are gonna get bigger
11:09
and deeper and longer
11:14
nice bit of pace down there and out of
11:20
the descent Hey woohoo almost there
11:27
small section a single track through
11:28
here getting very close to the finish
11:33
it is very deceptive though as Tom's
11:37
pointing out you think you're getting
11:39
close but the course does wind a bit
11:42
doesn't it once you get back into the
11:44
arena we're gonna zigzag for a while oh
11:47
yeah kind of regretting the wide
11:49
handlebars through that bridge Oh
11:52
just made it through here we are back
11:57
out into the main arena thanks to all of
11:59
you oh there we go our adoring fans
12:03
cheering us on that last bit of effort
12:09
you still going and how cruel is this
12:15
you head towards the finish line shoot
12:18
you can actually see it through there
12:20
but then you're sent on the left hander
12:22
back through the camp side again I've
12:25
only done one laugh and I'm already
12:26
feeling it you go for good F of a that
12:47
was awesome I think so
12:51
there you go so that's course preview
12:53
2018 pivot 2412 my name is will and
12:58
gonna be reporting throughout the
13:00
weekend we've had a good time haven't we
13:02
it's a really good racing course it's
13:05
got enough in there to make it
13:06
interesting but nothing too challenging
13:07
that anyone could yeah yeah
13:09
can we great weekend if the rain stays
13:11
away yes please all right hope you enjoy
13:15
stay tuned bye
