everyone and you from singletrack again
0:03
you may have already seen me live on the
0:05
topless road actually oh it can't so no
0:07
you may have already seen me live on
0:09
YouTube not YouTube on Facebook and
0:12
Instagram but now I'm going live on
0:13
YouTube with the new Schramm GX eagle
0:16
now I'm gonna turn the camera around and
0:18
like you know all the details so here we
0:20
go the new Schramm GX eagle has a 1052
0:26
cassette giving a range of five hundred
0:28
and twenty percent that new cassette new
0:32
large checker here is two teeth
0:34
larger than the original five hundred
0:38
percent cassette so this gives you a 20%
0:41
more range and a larger easier bailout
0:45
gear so when you get to some really big
0:48
climbs you've got that to rely on so it
0:52
starts at ten goes all the way to 42 and
0:55
all of these cogs here as steel the
0:58
largest 52 is aluminium and they're all
1:01
pinned together with stainless steel
1:03
pins everything on the back is machined
1:07
away so you've got as lighter cassette
1:11
as possible for the price the price is a
1:13
hundred ninety six pounds it weighs four
1:16
hundred and fifty two grams and you can
1:19
run this on all of the new Eagle Drive
1:22
trains but you do need the updated rear
1:26
derailleur so that because the new 52
1:31
tooth cog is so big the old Eagle rear
1:34
derailleur will not shift down correctly
1:37
if you use it so SRAM of had to update
1:39
the system with a new rear derailleur it
1:42
has new pivot placements it has new
1:44
architecture it has improved jockey
1:46
wheels and overall it's a better and
1:48
smoother and higher quality GX rear mech
1:51
than before so if you're looking at this
1:54
and you want to run five hundred and
1:55
twenty percent you're going to need the
1:57
new derailleur to go with it but if for
2:01
example you have a current GX or ego
2:05
drivetrain that needs a new mech my
2:07
suggestion would be go for the new rear
2:09
mech because this is backward compatible
2:11
you can run that with the five hundred
2:12
percent cassette
2:13
and then when money allows you can move
2:15
to this you can get that bigger range if
2:17
you want it so the big change is the
2:21
fact that you've got more range we've
2:22
got a bigger granny gear a bigger
2:24
bailout gear but another change for GX
2:26
is that Shrem have really improved the
2:28
look of it and nothing in this
2:31
drivetrain shows that better than these
2:33
cranks now SRAM is offering two version
2:36
of chain set for the new GX I've got the
2:39
carbon-fiber GX chain set which comes in
2:42
this really nice lunar finish lunar is
2:45
Schramm's signature color for GX you can
2:48
kind of see that we've got this lunar
2:50
finish on the alloy 3052 tooth there as
2:54
well and on the cage as well the shifter
2:57
also has this really nice kind of
3:00
RoboCup looking lunar finish the g8
3:05
carbon cranks weigh 555 grams without a
3:07
bottom bracket they've got a really nice
3:10
layup and really nice smooth finish on
3:13
here we've got this clear film here to
3:16
protect it from wearing and as you can
3:18
see they still look pretty good even
3:20
after I think it's two or three weeks of
3:22
riding they use dub technology for the
3:25
bottom bracket and a Derrick mount the X
3:28
sync to chain ring and this also has
3:31
that new lunar finish on there and
3:34
overall that is a very good-looking
3:36
chain set and it's not something that we
3:38
would expect to see from Schramm's GX
3:41
drivetrain so I've got a question
3:43
what's the granny gear how many teeth
3:45
it's 52 52 tooth biggest gear on here on
3:50
the cassette so we've moved from 50 to
3:52
52 so you've got this steel spread and
3:56
then an alloy 50 tooth
3:58
okay so back to the X Inc chain ring
4:01
really good chain ring for a check for
4:03
chain retention very difficult to drop a
4:06
chain off that and also obviously you
4:08
have the clutch on the rear mech there
4:10
which helps it keep everything on - and
4:13
also the clip the Rimac retains the cage
4:16
lock there so it's easy to take the old
4:18
rear wheel out now the shifter has also
4:22
been updated somewhat let me turn this
4:24
light on and you can see that we've got
4:27
an hour
4:27
lever now this is an alloy lever instead
4:30
of plastic it also has that nice lunar
4:33
finish in the UK this cost 37 pounds
4:38
some people have been asking will this
4:40
work with the older GX Eagle I've not
4:44
tried it I don't see why this wouldn't
4:46
work I think the only changes are this
4:48
alloy lever which just feel way nicer
4:51
than the plastic one and the lunar
4:53
finish those are 37 pounds on their own
4:56
there's two versions of the shifter
4:58
there's this which is for you know
5:00
standard mountain bikes and that allows
5:02
for multiple shifts up and there's also
5:04
an EMT V version which allows for one
5:06
shift at a time the cranks the chainset
5:11
the carbon one is 555 grams and I think
5:14
it's 240 pounds there's also an alloy
5:17
one which is a hundred and thirty-eight
5:20
matte yes xo1 and xx1 have been updated
5:26
to work - sorry xx 1 XO 1 G X are all
5:31
five hundred and twenty percent range
5:33
now if you have access you can use this
5:37
cassette on the old axis rear derailleur
5:39
you don't need a new rear derailleur if
5:41
you've got X X 1x 0 1 or GX
5:45
you need the rear derailleur and the
5:47
cassette it's only access that will
5:49
allow this cassette to work with the
5:51
with the current derailleur and no
5:53
there's no mention of GX axis yet and
5:56
that's kind of what I was looking
5:57
forward to I was hoping that this would
5:59
be G x-axis but I suppose it's too early
6:02
and overall it's a really nice upgrade
6:05
over the previous GX anyway so the GX
6:09
drivetrain has always been a really nice
6:11
workhorse group set but now it looks
6:14
good I mean look at that chain right
6:15
that chain set this looks amazing
6:17
I think it looks really good and the new
6:19
lunar finish looks really really smart
6:22
so price is sorry 240 pounds for this
6:26
one I believe the alloy one is 138
6:28
pounds the rear derailleur is a hundred
6:31
and ten the cassette is 196 but if you
6:34
bought a whole group set its 495 pounds
6:38
in the UK other changes too
6:41
let me turn this around so you can see
6:43
me so other changes that SRAM has
6:45
announced today our XO 1 and X x1 are
6:48
also going 520 percent we've got details
6:51
and pricing of that overall single track
6:53
world now so you can check that out you
6:54
can also head over to single track world
6:56
come now to see my first ride
6:57
impressions first ride review
6:59
of the group set now bear in mind is
7:01
based on two or three weeks of riding so
7:04
I do need to come back and tell you how
7:07
this is still lasting after a few months
7:09
so any questions about where I won't be
7:11
able to answer yet because I've simply
7:13
not put enough time on it but one thing
7:15
I can tell you is I have bashed the rear
7:18
mech I've got a couple of scrapes here
7:20
and it hasn't affected shifting so far
7:22
and the cassette construction is the
7:26
same as the previous one so steel at
7:28
Alli and the previous five hundred
7:30
percent cassette that lasted quite well
7:32
so I have no worries about this one -
7:35
other changes to EXO 1 and X x1 and GX
7:39
is that there are new colors so if you
7:42
wanted to you could run GX with a higher
7:45
end gold rainbow or copper cassette and
7:48
a matching chain as well so you've got
7:51
some color options there - but obviously
7:53
those prices are way higher and that's
7:56
it I think that's it so that's SRAM GX
7:59
520 % 52 tooth really nice bailout gear
8:04
for climbing so crank length Alex
8:07
crank length for me let me show you the
8:10
carbon cranks come in two lengths
8:12
there's a hundred and seventy and 175
8:14
the alloy cranks come in three there's
8:17
165 170 and 175 however in the
8:21
presentation we were told that the
8:23
carbon cranks would come in 165 - in the
8:26
documents it doesn't mention that so
8:28
I'll need to double check with SRAM to
8:30
see if that was just a mistake or what's
8:33
gonna happen if there's gonna be a new
8:34
shorter crank in the future - and that's
8:37
it that's all for now if you've got any
8:39
more questions please feel free to add
8:41
them in the comments below
8:42
I'll keep popping back to this for a
8:44
video over the next few hours and days
8:46
and answer any questions that I've
8:48
missed so yeah cheers and see you all
8:50
soon bye bye
