Pirelli have launched a complete range of MTB tyres, all called Scorpion. That could use a bit of explanation obvs and so we've done just that.
In this first of three videos looking at the range of Pirelli tyres Mark takes the all rounder Scorpion Trail tyres to one of the most famous bike parks in the world - Whistler. To see how the tyres could cope he took them from the very top of the mountain to the very bottom on one of Whistler's most amazing black runs - The Top Of The World Trail.
Benji goes into all the details on these tyres in his comprehensive feature here https://singletrackworld.com/2023/10/pirelli-scorpion-mountain-bike-tyres-explained/

hello I'm Benji from singletrack I'm
0:09
here with Mark from singletrack and this
0:11
is the first of our Pirelli scorpion
0:14
Vlogs all about their new tire range now
0:18
Pirelli have been doing tires for a long
0:20
time probably as long as anyone who's
0:22
been making rubber over a hundred years
0:24
they do tractor tires Formula One tires
0:27
probably Formula One tractor tires I
0:30
don't know but they do loads and the
0:32
tires that Mark has been trying are what
0:34
these that you can see behind me these
0:37
are the Pirelli scorpion Enduro M tires
0:40
and where and what have you been up to
0:42
well before we get to that have you ever
0:44
wondered what it's like to be a tire not
0:47
really what would you like to find out
0:48
yeah okay then check this out
0:51
[Music]
0:54
thank you
1:17
foreign
1:51
thank you
1:57
that was quite intense yeah I mean that
2:00
was my local trails around Burnley and
2:02
it wasn't particularly a gnarly Trail at
2:04
all I think we forget exactly what it is
2:06
that tires have to deal with even on
2:08
gentle Trails incidentally my camera did
2:10
fall off when I was actually filming
2:13
that I did find it I went back up the
2:15
trail and found it it was still
2:16
recording When I found it
2:20
[Music]
2:37
hello little vanilla
2:41
I thought we'd lost you
2:43
wow
2:46
welcome home
2:48
let's put you back
2:53
we didn't just ride these on your local
2:54
Trails did you no these tires Pirelli
2:57
say are actually suited to general
2:59
purpose riding they kind of do it all
3:01
tires so I decided to pull out to the
3:02
ultimate test by taking them to the
3:04
ultimate bike park so I took them on
3:06
holiday with me to Whistler and this is
3:08
how I got on
3:10
[Music]
3:24
okay
3:50
all right
3:52
thank you
4:08
breathing heavy already
4:10
I'm gonna blend on that seven thousand
4:13
feet
4:14
attitude would have at the moment
4:17
oh
4:25
stop
4:27
that's section one done
4:30
now for section two
4:32
[Music]
4:47
so this is a
4:50
Black Diamond single black diamond
4:56
they go it's a double black diamond
4:58
for mountain biking here in the park
5:03
[Music]
5:04
they also differentiate the trails as
5:06
technical
5:08
or jump lines
5:11
this one is definitely technical there
5:13
shouldn't be any jump lines on this
5:19
see you from going around in these
5:21
corners but we've got the black tusks to
5:23
the left right now
5:24
which is an old
5:26
volcanic plug
5:29
I don't know if you can see that now
5:30
it's just slightly up there to the left
5:34
[Music]
5:40
very famous landmark here
5:42
and that section two
5:45
wow
5:47
you see the black disc over there
6:01
it was the front wheel then
6:05
look at the burns here
6:12
[Music]
6:15
now there's some kickers along here
6:19
have an abundance of caution
6:22
I'm just rolling them
6:25
because I don't like the idea of
6:27
crushing it
6:29
67 000 feet
6:32
very remote up here
6:36
and I've never done this before so I
6:40
don't know what to expect so I'm
6:46
just being cautious
6:50
for example
6:57
well
6:58
it's about
6:59
doing it
7:04
finally got if you I'm gonna do misfire
7:06
yep
7:08
all right
7:10
I've got to misfire yeah oh my God look
7:13
at the roots
7:21
some of these are riding blind
7:24
[Music]
7:26
a rationale is
7:33
[Music]
7:34
I was just about to say my rationalize
7:37
they must go is someone's designed it
7:41
well I've done to my
7:43
boat
7:45
well
7:47
go on camera
7:49
landed it though
7:50
on my feet what was I saying before I
7:54
did that
7:55
this
7:56
everything goes
8:02
perhaps I should commentate less and
8:04
concentrate more
8:06
[Music]
8:30
holy that's steep
8:33
[Music]
8:40
[Music]
8:47
that was a leap of faith because
8:50
that was the steepest thing I've written
8:52
down
8:53
let's say this Pirelli
8:56
Enduro
8:58
um from Tire
9:01
of a
9:03
found very capable here
9:05
on this Terrain
9:13
[Music]
9:17
just gonna stop
9:18
have a break
9:20
[Music]
9:24
I'm so glad I stopped just to
9:26
well one get my breath back
9:28
two just
9:30
look around
9:33
the middle of a forest
9:39
it's gorgeous
9:43
you have to give these Trails especially
9:45
these black ones you're a hundred
9:47
percent
9:48
undivided attention which has the
9:51
the sad side effect of actually
9:55
missing out of being aware of where you
9:57
are
10:01
this is a
10:03
so peaceful
10:05
but there's people waiting so let's get
10:07
going
10:09
let's try and do this one incident three
10:29
I think you could tell from my silence
10:30
there I was concentrating
10:38
great scar
10:39
and Trust
10:41
the trail Builder
10:48
oh my
10:51
God
10:53
no that was not you don't worry
10:58
that was uh you're right
11:00
oh wow
11:03
I was yeah you were just in front of us
11:06
oh I'm gonna have a lie down after this
11:08
yeah
11:10
full on isn't
11:12
[Music]
11:15
it isn't it here we go
11:20
foreign
11:33
I think I'm gonna end up in Creekside
11:37
[Music]
11:39
that makes it about
11:45
pretty continuous
11:47
descent
11:53
feeling it
11:55
oh rideable
11:59
oh this looks
12:01
like we're merging into a blue
12:14
oh it's a relief
12:25
don't do that
12:33
easy way around I like that
12:36
[Music]
12:38
easy way around what
12:40
was that oh
12:42
that's quite nice actually
12:44
pretty sloppy
12:46
[Music]
13:00
easy way bro
13:01
I'm tired I'm gonna take the easy way
13:03
around
13:05
I've just come from 7 000 feet give me a
13:08
break
13:09
[Music]
13:13
oh great side
13:18
ah the bottom there it is
13:30
oh
13:37
I actually lost the feeling in my right
13:39
so oh God
13:44
so how did they get online in general
13:46
over in Whistler well I'll be honest
13:49
these tires were probably a little bit
13:51
out of their comfort zone that trail
13:53
that you saw me riding there was one
13:54
called top of the world and it goes from
13:57
the very Summit of Whistler Mountain at
13:58
7 100 feet and descends all the way down
14:01
to the valley floor it's about five
14:03
thousand feet of continuous descent I
14:05
had to put the pressure up quite High
14:07
just to compensate for the amount of
14:09
battering that they were getting but
14:12
overall they handle it really really
14:13
well I was really happy with them I
14:15
didn't have any problems with traction I
14:17
didn't have to worry about the tires
14:18
going down I just had to worry about my
14:20
own skills and as you saw in that clip
14:22
there was one point where I went right
14:23
over the bars but I managed to get down
14:26
safely didn't really injure myself so
14:28
yeah I was very happy with the tires
14:30
right well that's a good indication of
14:31
just how far you can push all around
14:34
mountain bike tires these days now stay
14:36
tuned we've got second of these Vlogs
14:38
coming up and that one's going to be all
14:40
about cross country racing stuff so stay
14:44
tuned bye for now
