however run this is will from
0:01
singletrack magazine we're here at the
0:02
2018 Fort William World Cup and I'm
0:04
joined by none other than Brendan
0:06
Fairclough hello hello how are you doing
0:09
very well yourself I'm doing all right
0:11
thank you for asking
0:12
and we're gonna have a bit of a look at
0:15
this this brand new bike that the
0:17
Brendan is going to be piloting this
0:19
weekend for Williams so so tell us about
0:23
it I mean it's obviously very different
0:24
to previous race bike you had so perhaps
0:27
we can talk a little bit about frame the
0:28
different components we've got on here
0:31
go for it what have we got well
0:36
obviously with prototypes were very hush
0:38
if you know a few things we can talk
0:40
about basically it's a work-in-progress
0:42
where this is the first prototype of
0:45
something that eventually may come along
0:47
the line every week and we work on
0:51
different things trying to figure stuff
0:52
out try to improve break and try to
0:54
improve speed here there whenever like
0:56
everyone is doing you know so but this
0:58
is a like I said raw prototype which i
1:01
think looks pretty cool I think it looks
1:03
rather snazzy we were just commenting on
1:05
Brendan's artistic talents here on the
1:08
down tube very impressive taken all my
1:10
years of crayons at school to finally
1:12
was paid off and you got all the logos
1:18
on the back done as well new boss
1:27
suspension these new pretty badass moto
1:31
inspired Forks up front
1:34
new brake to the TRP brakes really
1:36
really impressed with these awesome
1:39
moderation great power so I'm really
1:41
happy these yeah obviously a new a new
1:44
DMR death grip that's come out this
1:46
weekend exclusive and exclusive yeah
1:49
this is this is the first it's a new
1:52
camo one but snow camo yeah it's pretty
1:58
stock really but yeah what's it like
2:00
jumping on a new bikes you've been on
2:03
this for a little while having you I've
2:05
been on this for about a month now so
2:07
maybe a little over a month but yeah
2:09
it's it's good you know we can all ride
2:12
bikes you know
2:13
our level all bikes are good but we're
2:15
just trying to find that extra percent
2:17
those little marginal gains you know so
2:19
you can jump on anybody from get used to
2:21
it within a day I feel and then after
2:25
that you just trying to find like I said
2:26
those marginal gains and that's as I
2:27
thought we're doing now we're we're
2:29
hunting for those those split seconds
2:31
you know because at this end of the the
2:34
World Cup you know you can a second
2:36
devise you with ten positions and a
2:39
second down a four and a half minute
2:40
track is like a quarter of a second a
2:42
minute so like I said we're moving each
2:47
weekend and we'll see a see where we get
2:49
to just trying to wring out just a
2:51
little bit more performance each time
2:52
yeah yeah always and I notice there's a
2:57
few nice little custom little details
2:59
here noticed some rainbow colored bolts
3:01
on here and we've got a nice chain stay
3:04
protector as well we won't say rainbow
3:06
that would mean world champ which will
3:10
say petrel bolts a nice tight there from
3:13
tie bolts tie spring gave us some some
3:17
nice flashy petrol colored bolts put on
3:18
there get the weight down a little bit
3:20
again little marginal gains here and
3:22
they're cutting the grams and then yeah
3:25
just the the velcro and there's just to
3:28
keep there to keep the noise down this
3:30
all is really just to keep the noise
3:31
down and I mean you're when your bike
3:34
it's nice and quiet you know you feel
3:35
fast and smooth so makes all the
3:38
difference
3:39
let's see Bo yeah well every bit helps
3:41
right exactly and as far as the the bike
3:45
goes for this course Fort William how
3:47
would you set it up different to say
3:49
some of the other rounds if you're
3:51
racing out this year
3:52
well obviously especially this weekend I
3:55
think it's gonna be really really slippy
3:57
on top of all that dust on top of the
3:58
rock so I think you're gonna want to
4:00
really try to make the first part of
4:02
your suspension really soft so it grips
4:04
everything you can but then you've also
4:06
got a got to take into consideration
4:09
it's like nearly five minutes long so
4:11
you're gonna not want it too hard so you
4:13
don't your body doesn't get beaten up
4:15
too much but then you've also think well
4:17
there's lots of like drop-offs into
4:18
turns we don't your folks it goes right
4:20
through the travel so suspension to look
4:22
really important probably the main thing
4:25
is
4:26
all of you will be stressing about most
4:28
of the weekend Donna said and what about
4:30
like tire pressure and tire setup tire
4:32
choice that kind of thing yeah yeah we
4:34
[Music]
4:36
again that's really important always
4:38
always playing around with that but we
4:40
have we have a tire setup they were
4:42
pretty gonna stick with like about 29 in
4:46
the back and 24 in the front mhm so
4:48
slightly higher at the back than we
4:50
normally would but I you need to it's so
4:52
rocking Ruffy you got to a lot like I
4:56
said if you get a puncher then you know
4:58
where you know yes absolutely nobody
5:00
wants a puncture nobody what do you
5:03
think of the you've obviously done the
5:05
track walk this afternoon what do you
5:06
think of the course and the changes to
5:07
the course as well yeah yeah
5:10
controversial changes for me in the
5:12
woods you know I I'm always up for fresh
5:16
lomi natural stuff and they've paved it
5:19
but I guess you know they didn't know
5:23
what the weather was gonna be like and
5:24
the other side had to take them
5:26
consideration all the riders you know
5:27
not everyone is capable of getting
5:29
through that woods last year but I felt
5:31
it could have taken a few small changes
5:32
and we could have kept some nice low me
5:34
dirt and good for the crowd off the
5:36
riders but they've paved it and it's
5:37
what they've done so we're gonna get
5:39
used to it and same for everybody and
5:41
I'm sure we yes well I take it you're
5:46
one of the few riders that enjoyed it
5:47
last year a lot of lot of complaints
5:49
people it would have taken this cutting
5:53
two routes out beforehand so riders can
5:55
carry some speed in right riders don't
5:57
want to you've only got to look 30 out
6:00
of the top 50 riders were crushed in one
6:02
section yeah and that's not making
6:04
anyone look good so if you can just make
6:06
some small changes let's carry a bit of
6:09
speed into a section then I think we'd
6:11
be happy but a lot of works been put in
6:15
and we appreciate that so guys all right
6:17
well best of luck this weekend hope it
6:20
all pans out for you thank you very much
6:21
no worries thank you for taking us
6:23
through this prototype eyes peeled
6:27
please speculate away yeah Brendan thank
6:29
you very much for your time thank you
6:31
no worries
