This week's bike check is another one of Andi's fleet and this time we're talking eMTB with the Patrol E-Six. For those of you who don't already know, Patrol is an Indonesian bike brand which specialises purely in off-road cycling. The Patrol E-Six was released last year, and as a first eMTB, it's very impressive. Features include a Shimano STEPS E8000 motor, internal 630Wh SMP battery, 160mm\150mm travel, 29in wheels and Fox Suspension. Obviously this Patrol E-Six is a little special and sports a few upgrades including the MY 2021 Fox 38 fork.

now if you can pass your mind back to last year you'll remember that i was lucky enough to go to

bali and meet a brand called patrol while i was there i tested this the patrol e6 now unfortunately

while in bali i could only ride this bike once so i pleaded with patrol to send me one all the way

from indonesia and here it is now this bike actually arrived with us last year way before

winter and it has been my go-to bike all the way through winter and if you can imagine how sloppy

and dirty and gritty and wet the Peak District gets well this bike has been through it all and

hasn't let me down once. Now Patrol do two versions of this bike they do the E6 which is what this is

based on and an E6S. The E6S is their top of the range bike it has the same frame the same integrated

battery and the same motor but it comes with a slightly higher group set it comes with a Shimano

XT 12-speed drivetrain. It also has an updated suspension platform. Patrol E6 S comes with Fox

36 factory forks, a DPX2 rear shock, and a transfer dropper post, each one with a Kashima coating

Now this standard model E6 has the same frame, the same motor, but slightly different parts. So for

example, I have a Shimano SLX 12-speed drivetrain, which is fine for me. It also has, well it had

a Fox Performance suspension package, a 36 on the front, still has the DPX2 on the rear

and I've got an SDG Telus dropper post on this. Now, as you can see, my bike has undergone a few

changes and the big one is that fork That is a 2021 Fox 38 with 170mm of travel Now the 38 is perfect for a bike like this This is a heavier bike it a burly bike it basically a downhill bike that you can climb back up again thanks to that 70 newton meter motor

So the burly 38 on this bike makes a hell of a lot of sense and so far it has felt really good

Although it is 10 millimeters more travel and it changes the geometry slightly, it still rides

really well. Now other changes that I've made are the wheels. Now the stock wheels for this bike

were sunring lay rims, they were 40 mil duroc rims with a Shimano SLX hub front and rear. Now I've

changed those wheels to this Shimano XT package. Why? Well we had them in the office and they needed

testing so I popped them on here and although they're a much lighter weight wheel than the ones

that came off the bike they've stood up really well considering how heavy this bike is and the

type of riding it is really capable of. Now as you can see I've got V tires on here once again

If you watched my comments aisle video last week you'll have seen that I had a snap trail on the

rear and a snap flow WCE on the front and that is the exact same package I've got here. I wanted to

see what that top 40 compound handled like on an EMTB with a slightly more torque and I'll do a

full review of those tires later in the year. Now other changes are the Bergtech components. I'm a

big fan of Bergtec. They're a great brand from Macclesfield, a great bunch of lads, and their

products are really good quality. It's overall really good stuff, and it's not crazy money

So I've got a Bergtec the Cloud saddle here. It's a super comfy saddle. I believe this is the

Penthouse pedals on here, which are excellent pedals. As you can see, I've gone for the brown

to match the Brown Burgtec Bartender Pro grips Now these are a wider grip and they actually designed with the help of Greg manar at first i really felt they were a little bit too wide but over time i got really used

front and rear now Magura brakes actually feel pretty good but I found that the levers on the

model that came in this bike were a little bit flexy they had a bit of flex to them and also I

couldn't quite get on with the ergonomics with the Shimano 12 speed shifter so I've gone for a set

of Shimano SLX four piston brakes and I've already tested these and the review is on single

track world. If you're wondering how they feel they feel amazing they're great brakes in fact

they're just as good as the XT four pot but they're much more affordable because they don't have an

anodized finish and they come with a few slight different adjustments on there but overall an

amazing brake for not a lot of money. Now let's talk about the motor and the electronics of this

bike as i've said out of the box this comes with a shimano e8000 motor and obviously i've not changed

that so i don't know why i said out of the box but i've still got the e8000 motor it's a great

motor it's very compact it has 17 newton meters of torque and it has lots of different adjustments

so obviously it has the trail it has the eco and it has the boost mode it also has walk as well to

help you get up really steep stuff but you can download the e-tube app and you can adjust those

different powers as well. So out of the box this comes set in dynamic mode which is great for range it good for keeping your legs healthy but i a bit lazy in the winter so i boosted everything up i put it on its max power on

everything it's taken about five kilometers off my range and i know you're going to ask me how far

i can get on this bike in dynamic mode i've done 40k and in this tweaked mode i can do about 35k

this all depends on how much climbing you're doing which modes you're using the conditions

difficult for me to tell you the range of this bike but one thing i can tell you because of the

needed to fit it again because it's been nice and dry but here it is that's the rear ROP mud guard

and I really like it it's actually really really useful and it does keep a lot of mud and dirt off
